Cabernet “Alzero” Veneto IGT 2006 by Quintarelli
In an unspectacular year, naturally Quintarelli still managed to make something nonetheless spectacular. The legendary winemaker’s unique interpretation of the classic Bordeaux blend has maintained a really astonishing acidity, to rival anything you might find in the Gironde (and with considerably more power). A rare and phenomenal wine.
Assemblage: cabernet sauvignon 40%, cabernet franc 40%, merlot 20%.
Winemaking: grapes are selected with Quintarelli’s customary care and attention from their Negrar-based vineyards at relatively high altitudes (350m above sea level). Following fermentation the wine spends a total of 60 months (five years) in French oak.
Alcohol: 16,5%
Colour: ruby, with clearish, brickish edges.
Aroma: spice and perfume abound with exceptional depth and clarity, backed by undimmed red and black fruits and and profound tertiary notes like truffles and green peppers.
Palate: a softness and suppleness that truly belies its power and structure, the freshness notable that has sustained this wine across its ageing. A finish long and uplifting.
Ageability: has a long time left yet.
