Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico by Monte Santoccio
Seriously joyous exemplar of Valpolicella wine, with all its spriteliness and joie-de-vivre.
Winemaking: manual harvest followed by on-skin fermentation for around two weeks. No wood – the wine is aged in concrete for up to a year before release.
Assemblage: corvina 40%, corvinone 30%, rondinella 20%, molinara 10%.
Soil: mineral-rich clay and limestone.
Alcohol: 12.5%.
Colour: glinty, cheerful garnet.
Aroma: bright, fresh blackberries and blueberries, with a twist of spice.
Palate: light, refreshing, lively wine with true zip as well as softness and rounded cherry and black pepper flavours. Super-pure and lean, with a certain amount of stony minerality as well.
Ageability: a youth wine, to be enjoyed right this very minute.
Pairing: at its best chilled, and a really tremendous pairer with charcuterie and other antipasti.
