Amarone della Valpolicella Docg “Conte Gastone” by Massimago
Massimago’s “Conte Gastone” Amarone is a wine that, at times, feels timeless. Its inherent elegance, which is perceived with every sip, transports us to a new dimension, where the crispness of dried fruit on the nose combines with the richness of a warm and assertive taste, creating a harmonious blend of sensations that, while echoing the classic tradition, appear new and more enticing. This wine is the creation of young Camilla Rossi Chauvenet, who deserves praise for crafting a label that has earned its place in the cellars of all Italian red wine enthusiasts.
Massimago’s “Conte Gastone” Amarone is produced from the classic trio of indigenous Venetian grape varieties: Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella. The vines are grown using the Guyot system in the vineyards of Mezzane di Sotto, at around 180 meters above sea level, with roots sinking into a terroir composed primarily of marl and clay. After harvesting, the grapes are dried for three months in a fruit drying room, then cold macerated for five days. The subsequent alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel tanks. The final aging process lasts a total of 24 months in both French oak barriques and tonneaux.
The “Conte Gastone” Amarone by Massimago presents itself with a dark, impenetrable ruby color, featuring some garnet reflections that are more noticeable when tilting the glass and focusing on the rim. The nose is filled with nuances of dried fruit, while a diverse tapestry of spicier notes unfolds in the background. Generous on the palate, its muscular body develops with balance, highlighting a particularly tasty savory vein. In this bottle, Amarone suddenly appears as a “simple” and deeply empathetic wine, designed to be enjoyed during tranquil evenings.
