Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG by Azienda Agricola Carlo Ferragù
A forward-thinking wine from a forward-thinking producer, this is an Amarone to answer anything from the famous giants of the wine world (Chateauneuf-du-Papes, for instance, or certain South Australian shirazes). As much a thinking wine as a drinking wine, you could break this out for some exceptionally rich meal or enjoy it as a ‘vino di meditazione’, for slow degustation and consideration.
Assemblage: Corvina, corvinone, rondinella, oseleta.
Winemaking: A 70 day appassimento is followed by fermentation in stainless steel, with barrel ageing in small format oak barrels for 36 months.
Alcohol: 17%
Colour: Deep Roman purple, with a hint of garnet.
Aroma: Powerful, deep fruit, with spicy overtones of vanilla and black pepper.
Palate: Weighty and structured, with grape and oak tannins, but not unbalanced thanks to the presence of an acidic zing. The finish is long and complex.
