Valpolicella DOP Classico Superiore 2014 by Quintarelli
Unusually for the genre, Quintarelli’s Classico wine is designed to last for a few years and get better with a little ageing, thanks in part to its greater strength and oak ageing.
Assemblage: Corvina 55%, rondinella 30%, cabernet sauvignon 15%
Winemaking: An unusually short (for Quintarelli) fermentation is followed by a full 60 months in traditional barrels.
Alcohol: 15%
Colour: Intense ruby-red.
Aroma: Bitter cherries with a hint of maraschino, along with burgeoning cooked apple notes and hints of clove and nutmeg.
Palate: Powerful but balanced, especially after the years it’s spent in the bottle.
Ageability: At its peak now, with the next few years still a good bet.
