Valpolicella DOP Classico Superiore 2015 by Quintarelli
The legendary winemaker’s version of a standard Valpolicella wine. Naturally, it’s an extremely fine effort from a really stunning year – pure, rounded, exceptionally balanced and drinkable much earlier than the Amarone wines.
Assemblage: Corvina 55%, rondinella 30%, cabernet sauvignon 15%.
Winemaking: After gentle crushing, the wine ferments for 7-8 days (much shorter than a most Quintarelli wines) on indigenous yeasts. It is then aged for 60 months in large-scale oak botti prior to bottling.
Colour: Ruby-garnet, dense but with reddish translucent edges.
Aroma: Notes of spice and red fruit interwoven with hints of liquorice and fruits of the forest.
Palate: Full but fresh, silky but not at all overbearing, fruit-forward but subtle.
Ageability: Wonderful now and for the next five years.
