Vintage 2020
Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
A very good year. A dry spring, then a very rainy summer; quality varied from area to area.
An uneven year: dry until flowering, then very wet, with a harvest that varied from area to area.
January to May was drier and slightly warmer than usual. June to August brought 575 mm of rain at San Pietro in Cariano and 461 mm at Illasi, against about 230 mm in a normal year, with some hail in June and August. Downy mildew pressed hard after the rains, luckily once fruit set was over; later, botrytis and rot needed care, helped by the September weather. Picking began around 13 September.
Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG by Marion
Marion’s Amarone della Valpolicella is a bold and refined red wine that reflects the character of its hillside vineyards north of Verona. The estate, located in San Martino Buon Albergo, benefits from a climate moderated by the nearby Lake Garda, allowing Corvina Grossa, Corvina Gentile, and Rondinella to develop rich and complex flavors.
The winemaking process follows tradition, with carefully selected grapes drying in wooden crates from September to December. This method concentrates their sugars and flavors before a long fermentation and an aging period of 36 months in large Slavonian oak casks.
In the glass, this Amarone has a deep ruby-red color with garnet hues. The aromas are layered, with ripe black cherry, dried plum, blackberry jam, and warm spices such as vanilla and cinnamon. Hints of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and fine woods add further depth. On the palate, it is rich and structured, with velvety tannins and a well-balanced warmth that lingers in a long, harmonious finish.
This Amarone pairs well with aged cheeses, slow-cooked meats, or can be enjoyed on its own, allowing its depth and complexity to fully unfold.

Marion Winery – A Balance of Tradition and Innovation
Marion Winery is a family-run estate located in the Marcellise Valley, just east of Verona. The winery focuses on expressing the character of the region through careful vineyard management and thoughtful winemaking.
History & Philosophy
With roots in an area known for viticulture since ancient times, Marion has embraced both traditional and modern approaches to crafting high-quality wines. The estate is committed to producing wines that respect the land while allowing each grape variety to express its unique qualities.
Location & Terroir
The vineyards sit at 100-150 meters above sea level, benefiting from a north-south exposure and well-drained limestone-rich soils with clay and scattered stones. The microclimate, influenced by nearby Lake Garda, supports optimal grape ripening while maintaining freshness and complexity.
Wines & Winemaking
Marion produces a range of wines, from Amarone della Valpolicella to carefully crafted blends like "Calto". The winery employs selective harvesting, partial drying techniques (appassimento), and long aging in Slavonian oak barrels to develop structure and complexity.
Each wine reflects a balance of power and refinement, with careful attention to preserving the quality of the fruit and the characteristics of the land.
