Vintage 2020
Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
A very good year. A dry spring, then a very rainy summer; quality varied from area to area.
An uneven year: dry until flowering, then very wet, with a harvest that varied from area to area.
January to May was drier and slightly warmer than usual. June to August brought 575 mm of rain at San Pietro in Cariano and 461 mm at Illasi, against about 230 mm in a normal year, with some hail in June and August. Downy mildew pressed hard after the rains, luckily once fruit set was over; later, botrytis and rot needed care, helped by the September weather. Picking began around 13 September.
Teroldego Veneto Igt by Marion
This rare red wine revives an ancient Veronese variety, historically known as “Terodola,” still found in some of the regionโs oldest vineyards. Marion began cultivating this grape in 2020 by grafting it onto existing white varieties, later expanding with new plantings using selections from Mezzolombardo in Trentino.
Grown on the limestone-rich soils of the Marcellise Valley at 150 meters above sea level, the vines benefit from an east-west exposure on gently sloping terrain. Organic fertilization and microelement supplementation maintain the balance of the vineyard, ensuring high-quality fruit.
Harvest takes place between early and mid-September. A portion of the grapes is set aside for a month-long drying period in well-ventilated spaces, while the rest is fermented at peak ripeness a week after picking. No selected yeasts or temperature control are used, preserving the wineโs natural character. After fermentation, the wine matures for about 30 months in small barrels.
Deep in color with violet reflections, it reveals aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and violet, followed by a spiced finish. The palate is full-bodied and complex, with a long, persistent finish that highlights the grapeโs unique character.

Marion Winery โ A Balance of Tradition and Innovation
Marion Winery is a family-run estate located in the Marcellise Valley, just east of Verona. The winery focuses on expressing the character of the region through careful vineyard management and thoughtful winemaking.
History & Philosophy
With roots in an area known for viticulture since ancient times, Marion has embraced both traditional and modern approaches to crafting high-quality wines. The estate is committed to producing wines that respect the land while allowing each grape variety to express its unique qualities.
Location & Terroir
The vineyards sit at 100-150 meters above sea level, benefiting from a north-south exposure and well-drained limestone-rich soils with clay and scattered stones. The microclimate, influenced by nearby Lake Garda, supports optimal grape ripening while maintaining freshness and complexity.
Wines & Winemaking
Marion produces a range of wines, from Amarone della Valpolicella to carefully crafted blends likeย "Calto". The winery employs selective harvesting, partial drying techniques (appassimento), and long aging in Slavonian oak barrels to develop structure and complexity.
Each wine reflects a balance of power and refinement, with careful attention to preserving the quality of the fruit and the characteristics of the land.
