Vintage 2021
From the vintage reports of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella
A changeable year that ended well: a dry September gave healthy grapes.
A changeable season with late flowering and a dry September that gave healthy grapes.
March was very dry; April and May brought about 210 mm, close to normal, and June almost none. July to September had about 200 mm, some 50 mm below the average. Flowering came about ten days late and veraison about nine days late. Downy mildew needed precise work in May and June, and powdery mildew caused modest damage in a few sensitive spots. Dry weather in September kept botrytis away, and picking began around 15 September.
Cabernet Sauvignon Veneto Igt by Marion
Marion’s Cabernet Sauvignon brings a unique interpretation of this international variety by combining the distinct microclimate and limestone-rich soils of the Marcellise Valley with traditional Veneto winemaking techniques, including a partial drying process.
Grown at 100 meters above sea level with a north-south exposure, the vines benefit from organic vineyard management and careful hand-harvesting. A portion of the grapes undergoes a 40-day drying period in well-ventilated spaces, while the rest is left to overripe on the vine before fermentation. The two lots are aged separately in 350-liter Slavonian oak barrels for 30 months before blending and bottling.
Deep ruby red with violet reflections, this wine offers aromas of wild berries and spices. The palate is rich and enveloping, with well-integrated tannins and a long, balanced finish. Ideal with red meats, game, and aged cheeses, it is a rare find that brings depth and elegance to any meal.

Marion Winery – A Balance of Tradition and Innovation
Marion Winery is a family-run estate located in the Marcellise Valley, just east of Verona. The winery focuses on expressing the character of the region through careful vineyard management and thoughtful winemaking.
History & Philosophy
With roots in an area known for viticulture since ancient times, Marion has embraced both traditional and modern approaches to crafting high-quality wines. The estate is committed to producing wines that respect the land while allowing each grape variety to express its unique qualities.
Location & Terroir
The vineyards sit at 100-150 meters above sea level, benefiting from a north-south exposure and well-drained limestone-rich soils with clay and scattered stones. The microclimate, influenced by nearby Lake Garda, supports optimal grape ripening while maintaining freshness and complexity.
Wines & Winemaking
Marion produces a range of wines, from Amarone della Valpolicella to carefully crafted blends like "Calto". The winery employs selective harvesting, partial drying techniques (appassimento), and long aging in Slavonian oak barrels to develop structure and complexity.
Each wine reflects a balance of power and refinement, with careful attention to preserving the quality of the fruit and the characteristics of the land.
