Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
A very good year. Hot and dry, with an early harvest of sweet, deeply coloured grapes.
A hot, dry year with an early harvest and grapes rich in sugar and colour.
Little rain fell from the winter onward. Late frost in April damaged a small area near San Martino Buon Albergo. June to August were hot, at times with drought and some sunburn in mid June. Hail in late August and early September, mostly in Valpantena and the east, hurt quality rather than quantity. Corvina was picked in the first week of September, about ten days earlier than in 2016, with high sugar, low malic acid and very good colour potential. The heat kept most diseases away.
Valpolicella Ripasso Doc Classico Superiore by Villa Rinaldi
Valpolicella Ripasso Doc Classico Superiore by Villa Rinaldi is a red wine that brings together freshness and depth through the traditional Ripasso technique, where it undergoes a second fermentation on Amarone grape skins.
Produced from Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes grown in Valpolicella at altitudes between 250 and 300 meters, it gains further character from aging in French oak barriques from the Massif Central, with time in wood adjusted according to the vintage.
The nose opens with lively notes of violet, red flowers, ripe cherry, morello, juniper, and a light touch of almond. On the palate, it offers roundness and structure, with red fruit and spice leading to a long, enveloping finish. It pairs well with structured fish or red meat and is best served at 15°C in a medium-sized crystal glass.

Villa Rinaldi – A Unique Italian Maison de Négoce
Villa Rinaldi has been shaping its identity since the late 19th century, when Marcello Rinaldi laid the foundation for a winery deeply rooted in tradition. Over the decades, the family remained at the helm, refining its approach to both sparkling wines and great Valpolicella reds. A defining moment came in the 1960s when Rinaldo Rinaldi transformed the winery into an Italian Maison de Négoce, focusing on select Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Trentino Alto Adige and reviving historic winemaking methods.
A Vision of Excellence
Villa Rinaldi has long stood out for its dedication to Classic Method sparkling wines, refining techniques such as dégorgement à la volée and extended aging in French oak barriques. The winery introduced Barricaia Brut in 1986, setting a new benchmark for barrel-aged sparkling wines. It later pushed boundaries with Barricaia Noir, a red sparkling wine blending Corvina and Pinot Noir, an unconventional yet masterful creation.
The portfolio also includes Recioto della Valpolicella Metodo Classico, a rare interpretation of a historic style that reflects Verona’s deepest winemaking traditions. Over the years, Villa Rinaldi has gained recognition through international awards, including multiple gold medals at Vinitaly and prestigious titles such as Best Classic Method Sparkling Wine at Challenge Euposia.
A Style Like No Other
What defines Villa Rinaldi is a bold, independent approach to winemaking. The focus remains on carefully selected grape varieties, long aging, and methods that require precision and patience. Every bottle carries the imprint of this philosophy, where elegance, structure, and longevity come together.
