Vintage 2021
From the vintage reports of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella
A changeable year that ended well: a dry September gave healthy grapes.
A changeable season with late flowering and a dry September that gave healthy grapes.
March was very dry; April and May brought about 210 mm, close to normal, and June almost none. July to September had about 200 mm, some 50 mm below the average. Flowering came about ten days late and veraison about nine days late. Downy mildew needed precise work in May and June, and powdery mildew caused modest damage in a few sensitive spots. Dry weather in September kept botrytis away, and picking began around 15 September.
Brolo Campofiorin IGT Veronese by Masi
Dry, rich, velvety, complex and elegant. This wine maintains the cordial trait of Campofiorin, of which it is a particular selection, and marries its original technique inspired by the production of Amarone.
It is enriched by the presence of the original Oseleta, grape rediscovered by Masi, while the aging in small oak barrels accentuates its international style.
Intense ruby red colour. On the nose, aromas of wild berries, jam and vanilla prevail. Rich, warm and intense, notes of stewed fruit stand out in the mouth, with hints of cocoa and vanilla in the finish.
A wine of rare eclecticism: it goes well with pasta with rich sauces (based on meat or mushrooms), risotto, grilled or roasted red meats and aged cheeses.

Masi Winery has its roots in the Valpolicella Classica hills of north-eastern Italy, an area with varied soils and microclimates. The Boscaini family purchased their first plot, called “Vaio dei Masi,” in 1772 and has continued to cultivate grapes like Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara, and the rediscovered Oseleta. A key element of production is the Appassimento method, in which grapes are dried for at least 100 days to create Amarone, Recioto, and double-fermentation styles such as Ripasso.
The company has expanded into multiple areas, Veneto, Friuli, Trentino, Tuscany, and Argentina, always emphasizing local grape varieties. Guided by the Masi Technical Group, ongoing research merges long-held methods with modern practices. The new headquarters, “Monteleone21,” sits mostly below ground beneath vines and stone walls, evoking the look of traditional terraces. Inside, a 12-meter-high space is reserved for drying grapes, as well as a spacious zone with a wine shop, bar, and restaurant.
Monteleone21 places strong focus on renewable resources, with geothermal and photovoltaic systems that minimize energy use. These efforts earned recognition in the Best of Wine Tourism competition organized by Great Wine Capitals and the Verona Chamber of Commerce.
Through the Masi Foundation, the winery supports cultural and educational initiatives, including the Masi Prize, which honours individuals who enrich wine-related customs. Today, Masi wines reach about 140 countries, showing a passion for each stage of production and respect for local origins and traditions.
