Valpolicella Ripasso Doc Classico Superiore by Secondo Marco
The Valpolicella Ripasso Doc Classico Superiore by Secondo Marco is a red wine from the Veneto region that embodies the stubbornness, tenacity, and above all, humility that has always distinguished Marco Speri’s work in the vineyard and cellar. This rich and assertive bottle is created using the “ripasso” technique on the Amarone grape skins, resulting in a noteworthy personality and profile that are evident on both the nose and palate. Linear and warm, it is one of the flagship wines of the Secondo Marco winery, known for their mastery in blending indigenous varieties that reflect the essence of the region.
The blend of this Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso is led by Corvina at 60%, along with Corvinone, Rondinella, Oseleta, Coratina and Pipiona, all grown on the pergoletta system in the vineyards near Fumane di Valpolicella. The must is fermented on the skins for two weeks, then undergoes a second fermentation by “ripasso” on the Amarone grape skins. Aging takes place for 12 months in 50 hectolitre barrels, followed by further maturation in smaller barrels of only 7 hectolitres. After this period, the wine is ready for bottling.
On the eye, the Valpolicella Superiore Classico Ripasso reveals a deep ruby red color. The olfactory spectrum develops on the nose with a pleasant combination of fruity notes, followed by more spicy touches. In the mouth, it has excellent body, richness, and a harmonious sip that highlights finely integrated tannins within the wine’s overall structure. This bottle has received the approval of the main national industry guides, confirming the excellent work done by Marco Speri. With an alcohol content of 14%, this Valpolicella Ripasso Doc Classico Superiore by Secondo Marco is a product of patience, perseverance, and a deep respect for nature’s gifts.
