Vintage 2020
Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
A very good year. A dry spring, then a very rainy summer; quality varied from area to area.
An uneven year: dry until flowering, then very wet, with a harvest that varied from area to area.
January to May was drier and slightly warmer than usual. June to August brought 575 mm of rain at San Pietro in Cariano and 461 mm at Illasi, against about 230 mm in a normal year, with some hail in June and August. Downy mildew pressed hard after the rains, luckily once fruit set was over; later, botrytis and rot needed care, helped by the September weather. Picking began around 13 September.
Amarone della Valpolicella Docg Classico by Giovanni Dindo
The Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2020 by Giovanni Dindo is a wine of character and depth, crafted only in outstanding vintages. It represents the estate’s most celebrated expression, produced with a careful balance between tradition and patience.
Made from a blend of Corvina Veronese (50%), Corvinone (25%), Rondinella (20%), and Molinara (5%), this Amarone originates from hillside vineyards in the heart of Valpolicella. The grapes are hand-harvested in October and placed on wooden trays (plateaux) to dry naturally in the estate’s drying loft for about four months. During this period, each grape loses around 40% of its weight, concentrating sugars, aromas, and flavors.
After pressing, maceration takes place for 30 to 40 days at a controlled temperature of 18°C, ensuring a slow and gentle extraction of color and tannins. The wine then matures for three years — half in French oak tonneaux and half in large oak casks — gaining structure, harmony, and aromatic complexity.
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet-red color. The bouquet opens with aromas of licorice, caramel, tobacco, white flowers, and ripe cherry. On the palate, it is rich and full-bodied, yet refined, with velvety tannins and a long, lingering finish that leaves a warm impression.
Perfect with game, roasted meats, braised dishes, and aged cheeses, this Amarone expresses the elegance and authenticity of Giovanni Dindo’s winemaking philosophy.

Cantina Giovanni Dindo is a family-run estate situated in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica region. From its origins in the vineyards of grandfather Giovanni, the estate has grown across generations, combining deep roots in the land with contemporary winemaking.
The vineyards stand on calcareous-clay slopes and terraces above the valley, benefitting from ideal exposure and a climate that supports full grape maturity. Every stage of the process, from hand-harvest to drying of the grapes to careful ageing, reflects a commitment to authenticity and excellence.
The Dindo family cultivates a direct relationship with the land and the seasons, believing that wine is a bearer of memories, emotion and connection.
