Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
A very good, cool year. Fresh weather all season and careful work in the vineyards.
Perhaps the coolest year of the decade, one that called for careful vineyard work.
A long, cold winter and a very rainy February led into a slow spring. April to June swung between warm and cold with heavy rain, and the summer stayed slightly cool and wet. Vines grew vigorously, with good sized bunches that were looser than usual. Wide temperature swings late in the season built sugar and colour well. Harvest began on time, from 23 September, with light intermittent rain that did not harm the grapes.
Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico “Morar” by Valentina Cubi
Take in the distinctive character of Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico “Morar” by Valentina Cubi, a red wine grown on the hills of Fumane and San Pietro in Cariano. It is made using Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella grapes from Rasso, Monte Tenda, and Monte Crosetta, situated between 290 and 350 meters above sea level and cooled by breezes from Lake Garda.
Grapes are selected by hand at the ideal time, fermented in tronconic stainless steel tanks at a precise 14°C, then aged in wooden barrels, followed by additional bottle rest before release. With 17% alcohol, “Morar” shows a deep ruby color and a complex scent of dark cherry, blackberry, vanilla, cinnamon, and dark chocolate.
Its palate offers balanced freshness, firm tannins, and a prolonged finish featuring red fruits and spice, along with strong potential for further maturation. Excellent alongside red meats, aged cheeses, and game, it remains a versatile option for various occasions. Valentina Cubi emphasizes quality wine through sustainable methods, honoring long-held approaches in Valpolicella.

Valentina and Giancarlo built their estate on ten hectares of prized Fumane hillsides, Monte Tenda, Monte Crosetta, and Rasso, first acquiring seven of them in 1969. Giancarlo’s family had farmed vines since the 1800s; Valentina brought a drive for organic practice that now defines every row. No herbicides or synthetic treatments touch the soil, and certification backs the farming philosophy they hope to pass on to coming generations.
The couple calls themselves wine craftsmen. All fruit comes from their own plots, clipped by hand and sorted bunch by bunch. Fermentations proceed with gentle handling, filling the cellar each autumn with scents of berries and blossoms. Before any bottle leaves the property, the family tastes and re-tastes, releasing each wine only when texture and balance meet their standard. Visitors are welcomed during harvest and throughout the year, a chance to share the season’s flavors and the quiet focus that guides their small, quality-centered operation in the heart of Valpolicella.
