Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2017 – MAGNUM
Roccolo Grassi is a family estate founded in 1996 by Bruno Sartori and his children Marco and Francesca, farming around 14 hectares of vineyards across the Valpolicella and Soave zones. The Amarone comes from four hectares of southeast-facing volcanic and basaltic soils in the Val di Mezzane, at altitudes of 200 to 250 metres. The blend is led by Corvina at around 60 to 65 percent, supported by Corvinone, Rondinella, and small amounts of Croatina and Oseleta, all harvested by hand and partially dried for approximately 20 days to concentrate sugars and skin compounds. After traditional fermentation, the wine ages in barriques for at least 26 months, followed by a further 24 months of bottle ageing before release. The 2017 vintage was shaped by a cool, wet winter and spring, followed by a warm summer that produced concentrated fruit, while the estate’s elevated, firmer-soiled plots preserved freshness and structure.
Roccolo Grassi is a small family estate in Mezzane di Sotto, in the eastern valleys of the Valpolicella, started in 1996 when Marco Sartori began bottling the family’s grapes under the name of their best vineyard. Fourteen hectares across Mezzane and San Briccio are farmed with organic and biodynamic methods, fermentations run on yeasts selected from the estate’s own vineyards, and production stays near fifty thousand bottles. The style pairs concentration with freshness, using shorter drying for Amarone, and the range keeps whites serious too, with a Soave and Recioto di Soave beside the Valpolicella Superiore, Amarone and Recioto della Valpolicella.
