“Arele” by Tommasi
Trevenezie IGT Arele by Tommasi is a red with a soft, full-bodied and structured character, which is made with the main red grape varieties traditionally grown in Valpolicella and the addition of a percentage of Merlot. The grapes of the famous Bordeaux vine contribute to giving the wine a more international face, which also makes it more fruity, elegant and round on the palate. A more modern interpretation of the territory, but always respectful of the style and tradition of the great Veronese reds.
“Arele” is produced by the Tommasi winery with a selection of the best grapes from Corvina, Rondinella, Oseleta to which 10% Merlot is added. The name on the label refers to the traditional “arele”, or the wooden and bamboo boards that are used for drying the grapes. The wine, in fact, is produced with a part of slightly dried grapes, to increase the aromatic charge and the concentration before proceeding with the soft pressing and subsequent vinification. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and the wine then matures for a minimum period of 10 months in Slavonian oak barrels and for another two months in French oak barrels. It completes the refinement with a few months in the bottle before being put on sale.
Tommasi’s red “Arele” is a label that well represents Valpolicella for the prevalence in the blend of native vines typical of the area, for the technique of lightly drying the grapes and for the aging process, which prefers large woods. The color is very intense ruby red. The nose opens on enveloping aromas of ripe red fruit, black cherries, soft spices, medicinal herbs and licorice root. The sip is warm, rich and broad, with a ripe and very expressive fruit, delicate tannins and a finish of great gustatory balance.
