Veneto IGT “Rosso del Bepi” 2014 by Quintarelli
The “Rosso del Bepi” is something like Quintarelli’s answer to the Super Tuscan, though rather than going with international varieties the Valpolicella icons showcase unusual blends of autochthonous varieties (in this case, 55% corvina, an unusually large 30% molinara with the other 15% made up by cabernet sauvignon).
Though for some producers 2014 was a challenge, for Quintarelli it represented an opportunity. For those with the know-how wonderful, old school wines were produced, nonetheless with modern fruit and the region’s trademark heft – 15% alcohol, not to mention a really exceptionally long 84 months in oak botti to round it out.
Of all of Quintarelli’s wines this is in many ways the most modern, with powerful fruit and some flecks of vanilla, but the great winery’s signature is nonetheless all over this wine, with genuine elegance and wonderful balance and subtlety. Magnificent wine.
