Description

Valpolicella Ripasso DOC Classico Superiore by Novaia

Deep ruby red colour. On the nose it has a clean, intense aroma, with hints of spices and notes that recall the double fermentation on the pomaces of Amarone (ripasso). On the palate it shows a good alcoholicity, a medium-low acidity, developed tannins. Full body and structure, savory, persistent, nicely harmonious.

If stored properly, this wine is likely to age well for up to 5-6 years. We recommend laying the bottle horizontally in a dark, fresh place, at constant temperature and humidity.

About Novaia

Novaia occupies a 15th‑century hill‑top villa that overlooks the Marano Valley in upper Valpolicella Classica. The Vaona family settled here in the early 1700s, gradually purchasing the surrounding land and developing an estate that once produced grapes, olives, cherries, grain, and even silk. By the late 1800s Paolo Vaona was bottling his own wines and winning awards across Italy, an unusual step for the time.

Four generations later, Cesare and Giampaolo Vaona, joined by their children Cristina and Marcello, continue the work, having converted the estate to certified organic farming in 2005. Novaia now farms 10 hectares: seven under vine and three under olive trees, set 250 to 400 m above sea level with south‑southeast exposure. Marly‑calcareous soils streaked with basalt and tuff, the cooling influence of nearby mountains, and the near absence of fog create ideal conditions for slow ripening and for the traditional drying of grapes.

Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella form the core of the plantings, complemented by historic varieties Oseleta, Turchetta, and Molinara that the family preserves to safeguard local diversity. From these vines come Valpolicella, Ripasso, Amarone, and Recioto, wines that mirror the hillside terrain, the wide day‑night temperature swings, and three centuries of family stewardship.
