Amarone della Valpolicella DOC Classico “Archivio Storico” 2008 by Zenato Winery
Introducing the Amarone 2008 Archivio Storico Zenato, a masterpiece of vinification celebrating our history of dedication and passion. Our exquisite offering is a homage to the unique Valpolicella region, a testament to our name synonymous with excellence.
This magnificent wine originates from the grape varieties of 80% Corvina, 10% Rondinella, 10% Oseleta, and Croatina. These were carefully grown on our treasured 20-year old Costalunga Estate vineyard, located in S. Ambrogio di Valpolicella, which delivers a yield of 80 hundredweights per hectare. Each plant nurtures 6 to 7 buds, showing our dedication to controlled growth and quality over quantity.
Our vineyard is perched at an average altitude of 300 to 350 meters a.s.l., residing in a limey clay, rock-rich soil. This exceptional location ensures optimal exposure to the sun while allowing the vine roots to delve deep into the marl-filled ground to nourish on mineral salts.
Each grape is handpicked at the onset of October, under the traditional Guyot training system, ensuring a selective and sustainable harvest. Following the harvest, the grapes are left to dry in small 5kg wooden crates for about four months inside well-ventilated and dry rooms (fruttai). Only in January, after the natural drying process known as appassimento, are the grapes pressed. The grapes then undergo slow fermentation on the skins for 15-20 days and age for 10 years in a 30 hl Slavonian oak barrel.
The resulting Amarone 2008 Archivio Storico Zenato boasts an intense ruby red color, which gradually evolves to a garnet red over time. The bouquet is robust, bursting with the fruity flavors of cherry, Marasca cherry, and small berries, coupled with a spicy note that teases the senses. Upon tasting, you will be delighted by its warm, full-bodied, and structured flavor profile.
Serve this wine at a temperature of 18°C, preferably decanted an hour before serving, to let it breathe and fully express its personality. This is the perfect accompaniment to a variety of gastronomical delights, including roast meats, game, grilled steak, and mature cheeses. But don’t let us limit your experience; it’s also a perfect enjoyment all by itself.
The 2008 vintage was distinguished by a typical winter and a dry maturation period with slightly higher than average temperatures. This resulted in optimal grape health and good phenolic maturity. This led to the Amarone 2008 Archivio Storico Zenato, a bottle of wine that is not just a drink but a story, an experience, a celebration of Valpolicella’s unique identity.
