Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
A very good year. A dry spring, then a very rainy summer; quality varied from area to area.
An uneven year: dry until flowering, then very wet, with a harvest that varied from area to area.
January to May was drier and slightly warmer than usual. June to August brought 575 mm of rain at San Pietro in Cariano and 461 mm at Illasi, against about 230 mm in a normal year, with some hail in June and August. Downy mildew pressed hard after the rains, luckily once fruit set was over; later, botrytis and rot needed care, helped by the September weather. Picking began around 13 September.
Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG by DianaDes
This Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG from DianaDes comes from the limestone hills of Valpolicella, where vineyards sit around 400 meters above sea level. DianaDes is a contemporary project rooted in Valpolicella tradition, created with a clear idea of elegance, precision, and drinkability while staying true to the style of the appellation.
The wine is made from a classic blend of Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella, grown in pergola-trained vineyards with a density of about 3,300 vines per hectare. Grapes are harvested by hand and then naturally dried for around one hundred days to concentrate aromas and texture. After pressing, fermentation is slow and temperature-controlled. The wine then rests for roughly thirty months in small oak barrels, using both French and American oak, followed by extended bottle aging before release.
In the glass, it shows an intense ruby red with light garnet tones. The nose opens on red and dark berries, with currant, blackberry, and sour cherry at the forefront. On the palate, the fruit is joined by balsamic and spice notes, with layers of tobacco, coffee, and leather that build depth and a long finish.
Serve it with roasted or braised red meats, or with game birds, where its structure and aromatic intensity really shine.

DianaDes is a contemporary wine project created by Diana, a professional sommelier and restaurateur whose background is rooted in daily contact with international wine lovers. Years spent working on the restaurant floor shaped a clear vision: wines that are precise, expressive and easy to read, built with respect for place and made to be shared at the table.
The project took form through a close collaboration with Valpolicella enologist Daniele Cagliari, starting in 2016. Together they developed a range of wines that stay true to the Veneto while speaking a modern language, focusing on balance, clarity of fruit and consistency. Production is based on long term partnerships with selected growers and cellars, allowing full control over vineyard practices, drying processes and aging choices.
The DianaDes portfolio spans Valpolicella and Soave, from fresh and direct whites to structured reds including Valpolicella Ripasso and Amarone. Each wine is shaped with the same guiding idea: precision without heaviness, structure without excess, and a style that remains enjoyable throughout the glass.
The visual identity of DianaDes is inspired by the Roman goddess Diana, a symbol of strength, nature and independence, interpreted through artwork by Italian sculptor Girolamo Ciulla. This imagery mirrors the project’s character, combining cultural references with a clean, contemporary approach.
Based in the hills around Verona, DianaDes expresses the limestone soils and traditional grape varieties of the area through wines designed for both attentive tasting and relaxed moments at the table.
