Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
A very good year. A dry spring, then a very rainy summer; quality varied from area to area.
An uneven year: dry until flowering, then very wet, with a harvest that varied from area to area.
January to May was drier and slightly warmer than usual. June to August brought 575 mm of rain at San Pietro in Cariano and 461 mm at Illasi, against about 230 mm in a normal year, with some hail in June and August. Downy mildew pressed hard after the rains, luckily once fruit set was over; later, botrytis and rot needed care, helped by the September weather. Picking began around 13 September.
Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico “Vigneto La Permuta” by Benedetti La Villa
Vigneto La Permuta is the reference Amarone of Benedetti La Villa, produced from a rigorous selection of grapes grown in the historic โLa Permutaโ vineyard in Negrar, within the Valpolicella Classica area. The blend is based on Corvina, supported by Rondinella and a small percentage of Molinara, all harvested by hand at full maturity.
After harvest, the bunches are carefully selected and placed in wooden trays, where they undergo traditional drying for several months in the estateโs well ventilated drying lofts. This natural process concentrates sugars, aromas, structure, and phenolic compounds. At the end of January, once drying is complete, the grapes are destemmed and pressed. The resulting must and pomace ferment slowly in stainless steel vessels for around forty days, allowing for gentle extraction and aromatic precision.
Following fermentation, the wine is aged for an extended period in small to medium sized oak barrels, where it develops depth, balance, and texture. Maturation is completed with further bottle aging before release. The robust structure, marked acidity, and high concentration of alcohol, glycerine, and polyphenols make this Amarone particularly suited to long aging.
In the glass, Vigneto La Permuta shows a deep garnet red color. The nose is intense and complex, with layered aromas of cherry and morello cherry, plum compote, dried fruit, coffee, cocoa, and nutmeg, complemented by an elegant balsamic note. On the palate, the wine is coherent with the aromatic profile, offering a powerful yet harmonious structure, velvety tannins, and remarkable persistence. Freshness supports the richness, leading to a long, complete finish.
This Amarone pairs naturally with game, braised and roasted meats, and aged cheeses. It can also be enjoyed on its own, given time in the glass. To appreciate its full potential, decanting at least one hour before serving is recommended.
A structured, age worthy Amarone that reflects the identity of Benedetti La Villa and the historic vineyards of Valpolicella Classica.

Benedetti La Villa is a family run winery based in the heart of Valpolicella Classica, on the hills above Negrar, near Verona. The estate combines generations of local vineyard knowledge with a modern, precise approach in both the vineyard and the cellar.
The vineyards sit on hillside sites with limestone rich, stony soils that support balanced ripening and naturally bright wines. Traditional stone terraces are part of the landscape, helping manage slopes and water flow. The family has worked these lands since the mid nineteenth century, maintaining a strong link to place while improving equipment and techniques over time.
The name of the estate also connects to an important archaeological story. Beneath the vineyards, remains of a Roman villa were discovered, including striking mosaic floors with geometric and figurative motifs. This heritage has become part of the winery identity and is reflected in the way the family communicates its connection to the land.
Today the winery is led by brothers Simone and Matteo Benedetti, continuing the work shaped by their father Adriano and earlier generations. The range focuses on Valpolicella classics, from Valpolicella Classico to Ripasso, Amarone, and Recioto, with additional wines that reflect the character of the area.
Visits and tastings are available by appointment for guests who want to learn more about the estate, its vineyards, and its wines.
