Vintage 2021
From the vintage reports of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella
A changeable year that ended well: a dry September gave healthy grapes.
A changeable season with late flowering and a dry September that gave healthy grapes.
March was very dry; April and May brought about 210 mm, close to normal, and June almost none. July to September had about 200 mm, some 50 mm below the average. Flowering came about ten days late and veraison about nine days late. Downy mildew needed precise work in May and June, and powdery mildew caused modest damage in a few sensitive spots. Dry weather in September kept botrytis away, and picking began around 15 September.
Valpolicella Doc Classico Superiore “Mosaico” by Benedetti La Villa
This Valpolicella DOC Classico Superiore “Mosaico” is produced by Benedetti La Villa in the historic Valpolicella Classica area. It is made from Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella, sourced from hillside vineyards and harvested manually to preserve the quality and identity of the fruit.
Vinification is carried out with careful temperature control, allowing the varietal character of these native grapes to emerge clearly. Fermentation highlights freshness and aromatic precision. The wine then ages in small to medium sized oak barrels, followed by a refinement period of at least three months in bottle, gaining balance while retaining its natural vitality.
In the glass, it shows a bright red color with light purple hues. The nose is expressive and refined, marked by floral notes of violet, ripe cherry, and elegant balsamic accents. On the palate, it is coherent with the bouquet, soft and persistent, supported by a pleasant line of acidity. The finish is gently spicy, recalling black pepper.
This Valpolicella Classico Superiore pairs well with lasagnette or bigoli with meat sauce, risotto with zucchini blossoms, thick spaghetti with tomato sauce and basil, as well as grilled meats. A focused and versatile red, designed for the table.

Benedetti La Villa is a family run winery based in the heart of Valpolicella Classica, on the hills above Negrar, near Verona. The estate combines generations of local vineyard knowledge with a modern, precise approach in both the vineyard and the cellar.
The vineyards sit on hillside sites with limestone rich, stony soils that support balanced ripening and naturally bright wines. Traditional stone terraces are part of the landscape, helping manage slopes and water flow. The family has worked these lands since the mid nineteenth century, maintaining a strong link to place while improving equipment and techniques over time.
The name of the estate also connects to an important archaeological story. Beneath the vineyards, remains of a Roman villa were discovered, including striking mosaic floors with geometric and figurative motifs. This heritage has become part of the winery identity and is reflected in the way the family communicates its connection to the land.
Today the winery is led by brothers Simone and Matteo Benedetti, continuing the work shaped by their father Adriano and earlier generations. The range focuses on Valpolicella classics, from Valpolicella Classico to Ripasso, Amarone, and Recioto, with additional wines that reflect the character of the area.
Visits and tastings are available by appointment for guests who want to learn more about the estate, its vineyards, and its wines.
