Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
An excellent year. A cool summer, then a warm, breezy September that ripened the grapes well.
A cool, damp summer, then a warm, breezy September that finished the ripening well.
The winter was warm and dry; cold and rain returned from early April to mid May. July and August were cooler than average with frequent rain, and one hailstorm hit a small area high in the hills. Downy mildew was a challenge, above all around 10 June after four days of rain. September turned fine, with warmth and good ventilation keeping humidity low, and picking for the drying grapes began at the usual time. Fruit set was abundant in every variety.

“Emblema” Rosso Veneto Igt by Piccoli
Rosso Veneto IGT “Emblema” is a rare gem in the world of wines, a limited-edition masterpiece with only 2,500 bottles produced. This dry red wine is an exclusive blend that harmonizes multiple sensations, each sip is a confirmation of its exceptional craftsmanship.
Characteristics:
Type: Robust, dry red wine.
Grape Composition: A remarkable blend of ten varieties – Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Molinara, Croatina, Cabernet Sauvignon, Oseleta, Teroldego, Merlot, and Rebo, all meticulously cultivated in our vineyards.
Harvest: Handpicked in late September to ensure optimal maturity.
Soil Profile: Grown in calcareous, tuffaceous soil, providing a rich mineral backdrop.
Vinification Process: “Emblema,” inspired by the Greek concept of inner richness, is a mosaic of sensations. Each grape variety, picked at the peak of ripeness, is dried for 45 days, concentrating sugars and enhancing aromas. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks under strict temperature control, with daily stirring to maximize extraction from the grape skins and seeds.
Aging Perfection: This wine undergoes a profound transformation, maturing in medium-sized French oak barrels for a minimum of five years, followed by at least one year of bottle aging, to achieve its full potential.
Sensory Exploration:
- Color: A striking ruby red with subtle garnet reflections.
- Nose: A bouquet of intense mature fruits, elegantly woven with complex, robust spicy notes.
- Palate: The taste is a blend of richness, power, and smoothness, presenting a dense, complex flavor profile with an enduring aftertaste.
Serving Temperature: Best savored at 18 – 20 °C.
Culinary Companions: “Emblema” pairs wonderfully with a range of sophisticated dishes. It’s a perfect match for the intensity of extra-dark chocolate, flavorful meat tartare, the distinguished Culatello di Zibello DOP, and aromatic alpine cheeses seasoned with herbs like rosemary and sage. Its unique blend makes it an ideal wine for contemplation and enjoyment in quiet moments.

Veronica and Alice oversee a hillside estate their family has tended for more than sixty years, applying a “zero‑centimetre” philosophy, every decision begins with the soil beneath their feet. Each bunch is clipped by hand; the best are laid in small crates on the loft’s open floor, where mountain air slowly dries the grapes for Amarone and Recioto.
The cellar itself is an old tuff quarry carved into rock. Its natural insulation keeps temperature and humidity steady, so fermentation can proceed cool and clean in stainless‑steel tanks, never above 20 °C. Gravity moves must and skins gently, preserving the grapes’ own aromas. After a brief rest in steel, wines mature in medium and large French oak for anywhere from one to ten years, gaining depth through slow micro‑oxygenation.
Above the quarry a green roof of vines crowns the structure, uniting vineyard and winery and reducing environmental impact. Guided by the example of their parents, Daniela and Tiziano, the sisters craft Valpolicella wines that honour local varieties, the limestone‑rich slopes, and a tradition of patience that begins long before harvest and ends only when a bottle is opened.
