Description

Valpolicella Ripasso Doc Superiore by Famiglia Pasqua

This Valpolicella Ripasso is one of Pasqua’s classic reads of the Veronese territory. It starts as a blend of native Valpolicella grapes and is then “ripassed”, left to rest on the leftover Amarone skins after that wine has finished fermenting. The young wine takes up extra body, warmth and a touch of sweetness from its bigger sibling, which is what gives a Ripasso its fuller character compared with a standard Valpolicella.

The blend is Corvina, Rondinella, Corvinone and Negrara. Alcoholic fermentation runs in steel, after which the wine is passed back over the Amarone pomace, then spends a short period in wood to round it out.

The colour is an intense ruby red. The nose leads with fruit such as morello cherry, blueberry and currant, lifted by notes of liquorice and a roasted, coffee-like edge. On the palate it is rich, warm and soft, with gentle tannins, good balance and a persistent close.
Serve at 18 to 20°C in a large goblet. It works with cured ham and salami, red meat stews, white meats and pasta Bolognese, and has enough sweetness of fruit to sit happily alongside dark chocolate. Good to drink now, it will also rest and develop well in the cellar for four to five years.

About Famiglia Pasqua

Pasqua Vigneti e Cantine is a historic Veronese winery owned by the Pasqua family. Founded in 1925, it is recognised around the world as both a producer and ambassador of prestigious Venetian wines. What the first generation of Pasqua brothers started has grown over a century into a house that pairs a deep understanding of the Valpolicella terroir with a constant push toward new winemaking ideas, carrying forward a hundred years of expertise through renewed stylistic codes.

Today President Umberto Pasqua works alongside his sons: Riccardo Pasqua as Chief Executive Officer, Alessandro Pasqua as President of Pasqua USA, and Andrea Pasqua as Head of Business Development. This third generation gave the winery its guiding manifesto, House of the Unconventional, a statement of identity built on boldness, a drive for experimentation, and curiosity about the world. Those values steer every strategic and production decision, with the wines acting as ambassadors of a dialogue between territory and creative vision, where the identity of a place meets human ingenuity to give wines that hold strong roots together with an international outlook.

The family thinks of its bottles as an ensemble of time made of yesterday, today and tomorrow. Each one holds knowledge passed down from generation to generation alongside the aim of producing wines built to withstand time, maturing and evolving in the glass. Art is a steady source of inspiration: Pasqua has long worked with artists worldwide, grounded in the belief that innovation is born from a profound, appreciative knowledge of history and tradition. Sustainability runs through the business too, from highly optimised energy use and temperature regulating structures to reduced packaging waste, supported by quality certifications including ISO, BRC, IFS and Biological, plus conformity to the Equalitas SOPD standard.

That research-minded approach has been noticed: Pasqua was named Innovator of the Year 2023 by Wine Enthusiast. In 2025 the winery celebrated its first 100 years, was chosen by winemaker Charles Smith as global distributor of the House of Smith brands (K Vintners, Sex and Real Wine), of which it is also a minority partner, and invested in the Pantelleria winemaking project of actress and style icon Carole Bouquet, acquiring ownership and linking its winemaking vision to the preservation of the island's culture.

As the family sees it, the wines they make are the fruit of their land's generosity and human talent.
