Vintage 2021
From the vintage reports of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella
A changeable year that ended well: a dry September gave healthy grapes.
A changeable season with late flowering and a dry September that gave healthy grapes.
March was very dry; April and May brought about 210 mm, close to normal, and June almost none. July to September had about 200 mm, some 50 mm below the average. Flowering came about ten days late and veraison about nine days late. Downy mildew needed precise work in May and June, and powdery mildew caused modest damage in a few sensitive spots. Dry weather in September kept botrytis away, and picking began around 15 September.
Amarone della Valpolicella Docg Classico “Collezione Pruviniano” by Domini Veneti
The Amarone della Valpolicella Classico “Collezione Pruviniano” is one of the signature wines of Domini Veneti. It is produced from grapes grown in the Marano Valley, an area known until the 12th century as Pruviniano. The name recalls the ancient identity of this corner of Valpolicella and perfectly fits a wine that carries a traditional and authentic style.
The vineyards are located in Prognol, in the heart of Valpolicella Classica, at an altitude between 200 and 250 meters above sea level. The vines, about fifteen years old, grow on soils composed of silt, clay, and limestone, with excellent southern and southwestern exposure — conditions that favor full ripening and aromatic concentration.
The grapes, mainly Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella, are carefully hand-selected during harvest and then placed in drying rooms, where they rest until December or January. This natural drying process concentrates the sugars and flavors. After gentle destemming, fermentation takes place with maceration on the skins for about one month. The wine then matures for eighteen months in oak barrels and continues aging for several months in bottle before release.
In the glass, it shows an intense garnet-red color with deep reflections. The bouquet is rich and layered, with notes of wild berry jam, cherries in liqueur, sweet oriental spices, bitter cocoa, roasted coffee, and a hint of balsamic freshness. On the palate, it is full-bodied, enveloping, and persistent, marked by ripe fruit and smooth tannins that lead to a long, harmonious finish.
The “Collezione Pruviniano” stands out for its depth and refinement. It pairs beautifully with braised meats, slow-cooked dishes, and game, as well as mature cheeses enjoyed at the end of a meal. A wine that expresses the strength and elegance of Valpolicella in perfect balance.

Domìni Veneti traces its origins to 1933, when a group of local grape growers in Valpolicella formed the Cantina Sociale Valpolicella Negrar cooperative. Their aim was to protect the region’s vineyards and preserve its long-standing winemaking traditions. In 1936, an overlooked barrel of Recioto continued fermenting by mistake, transforming into the dry and aromatic red later named Amarone. This discovery sparked a new direction in Valpolicella winemaking.
By 1989, the cooperative launched Domìni Veneti as a focused line of premium selections, drawing its name from the historical period when the region belonged to the Republic of Venice. Today, the winery draws on decades of local know-how and a fortunate blend of soil and climate. Every step, from tending vines to cellar practices, respects nature’s own pace.
Red or white, sweet or dry, wines bearing the Domìni Veneti name arise from the Valpolicella Classica zone and other Veronese areas. Amarone stands out as the so-called King of Valpolicella, born from that accidental moment in 1936. Recioto remains a sweet red DOCG, prized for its deep hue and prolonged grape-drying process. Valpolicella and Ripasso recall methods rooted in earlier generations, while Custoza, Lugana, Soave, Bardolino, Bardolino Chiaretto, and Raudii IGT round out the range of regional offerings.
What unites them all is an approach guided by human skill and the natural environment. The soil, vines, and climate work together to form wines that share a strong connection with the place they come from. This balance of tradition and thoughtful progress defines Domìni Veneti, a name that continues to champion authentic Valpolicella wines and the land that inspires them.
