Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
A very good year. Warm weather, plenty of water and a balanced harvest.
A warm year with good water reserves, balanced ripening and a slightly early harvest.
Spring was cold at first, then warm, with repeated spells of cold air and a lot of rain in the hills. Early summer was cool and unstable; from late July it turned hot, with local storms. Strong storms in early September caused local damage, with landslides and flooding in some vineyards. Harvest began on 10 September, four days ahead of the average, with good sugar, balanced acidity and heavier berries thanks to plenty of water.
“Corvina” Rosso Veronese IGT 2018 by Italium
This Corvina Rosso Verona IGT by Ilatium Morini is a bold and character driven expression of 100 percent Corvina, produced outside the strict framework of DOC and DOCG regulations. Choosing the Rosso Verona IGT denomination allows the winery greater creative freedom in vinification, ageing choices, and stylistic direction, while remaining deeply rooted in the territory. It is a deliberate decision to focus on identity and personality rather than conforming to traditional category expectations.
Ilatium Morini is a family run estate based in the Valpolicella area, known for its precise and expressive wines. The winery has built its reputation on careful vineyard management and a strong respect for local grape varieties, especially Corvina, which here is interpreted in a powerful and structured style.
Depending on the vintage, the wine rests for around 24 months in French and American oak barrels of 225 to 500 litres, third passage, followed by a minimum of 8 months in bottle before release. This long maturation shapes the structure while preserving varietal character.
In the glass it shows a very dense ruby red color. The nose is broad and intense, with toasted notes of coffee and cocoa, spices such as black pepper, fresh aromatic herbs like mint and oregano, and ripe fruit including cherries, sour cherries and blackberries. On the palate it is elegantly fresh and tannic with solid structure, offering a long and persistent finish. The 2018 vintage, with its 17 percent alcohol, delivers depth and concentration while maintaining balance through acidity and firm tannins.
A distinctive Corvina that highlights the versatility of the grape beyond traditional appellation boundaries.

Ilatium Morini is rooted in Val di Mezzane, where vineyards surround an early 1900s farmhouse that inspired Luigi and Giuseppe Morini in 1980. Their plan was straightforward: pool their lands and tend the grapes previously sent to the local cooperative. Over time, seven Morini siblings and cousins came together, blending forward-looking ideas with the family's time-honoured methods.
In 1992, additional vineyards were acquired near the farmhouse, laying the groundwork for the official founding of Ilatium Morini in 2001. Two years later, the first wine label was released, with the original bottle still held in the family archive. As the estate outgrew its first facility, a new, purpose-built winery opened in 2006, followed by further expansion in 2020 with the restoration of the farmhouse to house a Wine Shop and tasting rooms.
Harvesting remains entirely hands-on, with careful grape selection carried through every stage, from drying to pressing and fermentation. A range of oak barrel sizes draws out each wine's layers of flavour, including unexpected nuances. The estate spans La Calle, Sottomonte, Forade, Ai Progni, Leòn, Mezzane ai Monti, Grezzana and l'Olivara, each plot bringing its own distinct character. This balance of tradition and forward thinking defines Ilatium Morini's approach to authentic Verona winemaking.
