Vintage 2021
From the vintage reports of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella
A changeable year that ended well: a dry September gave healthy grapes.
A changeable season with late flowering and a dry September that gave healthy grapes.
March was very dry; April and May brought about 210 mm, close to normal, and June almost none. July to September had about 200 mm, some 50 mm below the average. Flowering came about ten days late and veraison about nine days late. Downy mildew needed precise work in May and June, and powdery mildew caused modest damage in a few sensitive spots. Dry weather in September kept botrytis away, and picking began around 15 September.
Valpolicella Ripasso Doc Superiore by DianaDes
This Valpolicella Ripasso DOC Superiore by DianaDes is produced in the Valpolicella DOC area on calcareous soils at around 400 meters above sea level. The wine is made from Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella, grown in pergola trained vineyards with a planting density of about 3,300 vines per hectare.
The Ripasso method starts with Valpolicella Superiore, which is left to macerate for roughly twenty days on the grape skins used to produce Amarone from the same vintage. This second fermentation adds depth, texture and aromatic complexity while preserving freshness and fruit clarity. After the ripasso process, the wine rests partly in stainless steel and partly in oak barriques, where it ages for about twenty four months in a combination of French and American oak.
In the glass, it shows a ruby red color with garnet tones toward the rim. The nose opens with red rose and abundant red fruit. On the palate, cherry and plum dominate, with clear references to sour cherry jam, followed by spicy notes of black pepper and hints of leather. The structure is balanced by freshness, making the wine generous yet easy to enjoy.
It pairs well with egg pasta and ragù, including game based sauces, baked pasta dishes, legume soups, and grilled or roasted meats.

DianaDes is a contemporary wine project created by Diana, a professional sommelier and restaurateur whose background is rooted in daily contact with international wine lovers. Years spent working on the restaurant floor shaped a clear vision: wines that are precise, expressive and easy to read, built with respect for place and made to be shared at the table.
The project took form through a close collaboration with Valpolicella enologist Daniele Cagliari, starting in 2016. Together they developed a range of wines that stay true to the Veneto while speaking a modern language, focusing on balance, clarity of fruit and consistency. Production is based on long term partnerships with selected growers and cellars, allowing full control over vineyard practices, drying processes and aging choices.
The DianaDes portfolio spans Valpolicella and Soave, from fresh and direct whites to structured reds including Valpolicella Ripasso and Amarone. Each wine is shaped with the same guiding idea: precision without heaviness, structure without excess, and a style that remains enjoyable throughout the glass.
The visual identity of DianaDes is inspired by the Roman goddess Diana, a symbol of strength, nature and independence, interpreted through artwork by Italian sculptor Girolamo Ciulla. This imagery mirrors the project’s character, combining cultural references with a clean, contemporary approach.
Based in the hills around Verona, DianaDes expresses the limestone soils and traditional grape varieties of the area through wines designed for both attentive tasting and relaxed moments at the table.
