Vintage 2015Exceptional vintage
Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
An exceptional year. A hot, dry summer and an early harvest of very healthy grapes.
A year of extremes: record heat and little rain, with healthy grapes and an early harvest.
The winter was warm, and the following months set twenty year records for maximum temperatures, July above all. April and July were very dry. Flowering came early, in late May and early June, and the heat of July and August did not slow ripening. The hot, dry weather kept downy mildew, powdery mildew and botrytis away, while careful vineyard work eased the stress on the vines. Harvest from about 10 September.
Valpolicella Doc Classico Superiore “San Michele della Chiesa” 2015 by Tenute Ugolini
From a carefully selected vineyard on the historic San Michele della Chiesa hill, this Valpolicella Classico Superiore represents an expression of its unique terroir. Grown in tufaceous soil at 210 meters above sea level with a southeast exposure, the Corvina Gentile, Corvina Grossa, Rondinella, and Oseleta grapes develop rich character under optimal ripening conditions.
The 2015 vintage benefited from steady temperatures and excellent ventilation during the final stages of grape maturation, resulting in a well-structured and balanced wine. With an acquired alcohol of 15% Vol, it delivers deep flavors and complexity while maintaining freshness.
In the glass, it presents an intense garnet red color. Aromas of dark fruit, including plum, blueberry, and blackberry, are complemented by balsamic and spicy notes. On the palate, it is smooth, with refined tannins and a lively freshness, making it a versatile choice for pairing.
Recommended Pairings:
Ideal alongside roasts, grilled meats, and rich dishes that enhance its depth and structure.
Serving Suggestions:
Best enjoyed in a medium-sized balloon glass at 16-18°C to highlight its aromatic layers and elegant texture.
With an aging potential of 20-25 years, this Valpolicella Classico Superiore continues to develop over time, revealing even greater depth and complexity.

Ugolini Winery is deeply connected to the Valle di Fumane, where each vineyard reflects a commitment to organic farming and respect for the land. The estate focuses on single-vineyard wines that highlight the distinct characteristics of their specific crus: Pozzetto Valpolicella Classico, San Michele Valpolicella Classico Superiore, and Valle Alta Amarone della Valpolicella.
Pozzetto: A Wine of Identity
Pozzetto represents tradition and simplicity, a wine crafted to be shared among family and friends. Sourced from the historic vineyard of the same name at 160 meters above sea level, it remains true to its roots, foregoing the Appassimento method or wood aging. The result is a balanced and lively expression of fruit, embodying the authenticity of the Valle di Fumane.
San Michele: The Well-Tempered Corvina
Situated on the slopes of Colle San Michele at 200 meters above sea level, this vineyard benefits from a tuff-rich soil and meticulously maintained terraces. By selecting only the finest grapes, the wine achieves an elegant structure, with depth and complexity balanced by bright freshness. It is a refined expression of Corvina, offering a long and precise finish.
Valle Alta: Strength and Balance
At 256 meters above sea level, the vineyard of Valle Alta thrives on a foundation of limestone and clay. The southeastern exposure provides a vital acidity that enhances the longevity of the wine. The grapes undergo a careful drying process, adding layers of depth while maintaining poise. The result is an Amarone with remarkable finesse, where every nuance is in harmony.
Limited Production Wines: A Rare Privilege
Ugolini produces two exclusive wines in small quantities, Valle Lena Recioto della Valpolicella and San Michele della Chiesa Valpolicella Classico Superiore. These wines reflect the pursuit of refinement, where patience and craftsmanship yield extraordinary results.
Organic Farming: The Strength of Deep Roots
Ugolini's commitment to organic viticulture is evident in the way the vineyards have adapted over time. By limiting external interventions, the vines have developed deep root systems, reaching 50 centimeters below the surface, where a stable temperature of 15°C allows for optimal growth. This natural resilience fosters balance in the vines, resulting in wines that truly reflect their place of origin.
Villa San Michele: A Historic Setting for Wine and Culture
Once an agricultural residence for the Abbey of San Zeno Maggiore and later an Austrian officers’ home, Villa San Michele is a place where history and winemaking intersect. Each room within the villa offers a unique atmosphere for wine tastings:
The Map Room showcases artistic cartography and the landscape of Valle di Fumane.
The Blue Room carries the legacy of Milan and Venice, symbolizing its Habsburg past.
The Red Room connects wine with music, where opera performances enhance the tasting experience.
The Historic Kitchen is a tribute to medieval traditions, reflecting the estate’s agricultural origins.
The Ivory Room serves as an exhibition space for Ugolini’s award-winning wines, blending modern refinement with the rustic charm of wood and stone.
Ugolini Winery brings together tradition, sustainability, and a deep understanding of the land, ensuring that every bottle tells a story of Valpolicella Classica.
