Description

Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico “Montepalà” by Corte Aleardi

The Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico by Corte Aleardi stands as the flagship wine of their production, showcasing the finest qualities of Valpolicella. Produced exclusively from native grape varieties, this Amarone Classico originates from the Montepalà vineyards, nestled in the hilly heart of Valpolicella Classico. Here, at an altitude of 180 meters with a southern exposure, the grapes are meticulously harvested from mid-September to mid-October.

Comprised of 80% Corvina, 10% Corvinone, and 10% Rondinella, the vines, aged between 10 and 19 years, thrive in calcareous and gravelly soil. The grapes are then arranged on racks in airy drying rooms until January, allowing for natural drying over three months. In January, the dried grapes undergo a gentle crushing, followed by alcoholic fermentation at low winter temperatures.

The wine then ages for three to five years in Slavonian oak barrels within their underground cellars, with a further 12 months of refinement in the bottle. The result is an annual production of 10,000 bottles, each offering a deep red color and an intricate bouquet of cherry, red currant, ripe fruit spices, plum, blueberry, and cacao.

On the palate, the Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico is full-bodied yet remains silky, with well-balanced and appropriately tannic characteristics. Ideal pairings include game dishes, roasts, and well-matured cheeses. For the best experience, it should be served at 20 degrees Celsius in long-stemmed glasses with a large bowl.

About Corte Aleardi

Corte Aleardi traces its winemaking tradition back to 1789 in Gargagnago, Valpolicella, where the Ferrari family has cultivated vines for generations. Over the past sixty years, production has broadened while still preserving the character of local varieties and time-honoured methods. Bure Alto and Montepalà, the principal vineyards, feature calcareous soils that encourage robust grape development. Hand-harvesting selects only top-quality clusters, destined for Amarone, Recioto, and Valpolicella wines.

Grapes designated for Amarone rest in a loft with natural ventilation, concentrating flavours without haste - know as Appassamento. A 17th-century underground cellar provides stable temperatures and humidity for aging, while a restored area addresses vinification and bottling using current techniques. This blend of tradition and innovation can be seen in Corte Aleardi’s Amarone Riserva, prized for depth, as well as their Valpolicella Classico Superiore, Valpolicella Ripasso, and Recioto.

Every bottle underscores the family’s respect for the region and for sustainable practices. The original cellar from centuries ago remains in daily use, linking past and present in a place devoted to producing distinctive wines that capture the spirit of Gargagnago and the broader Valpolicella area.
