Description

Valpolicella Ripasso Doc Classico Superiore “Le Cortesele” by Benedetti La Villa

Le Cortesele is a Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore produced using the traditional Ripasso method, a technique unique to Valpolicella. This process involves a second fermentation of young Valpolicella wine on Amarone pomace, a step that naturally adds structure, depth, and aromatic complexity.

In March, the fresh wine is transferred onto the Amarone skins just after racking. Here, the refermentation takes place, enriched by both the pomace and a small percentage of Amarone wine, as allowed by the production rules. This contribution gives the Ripasso greater body and definition while preserving balance and freshness.

After the refermentation, the wine begins its aging period in small to medium sized oak barrels. Maturation is completed with a refinement phase in bottle lasting at least three months, allowing the wine to settle and gain harmony.

In the glass, Le Cortesele shows a full ruby red color. The nose is expressive and clean, with notes of violet, cherry, strawberry, and blackberry, supported by a pleasant balsamic touch. On the palate, the wine follows the aromatic profile closely, offering a rounded and smooth texture. Supple tannins and an elegant line of acidity provide balance, while the finish reveals a subtle licorice note that adds length and character.

A versatile Ripasso, well suited to the table and ideal with pasta dishes, roasted meats, and medium aged cheeses.

About Benedetti La Villa

Benedetti La Villa is a family run winery based in the heart of Valpolicella Classica, on the hills above Negrar, near Verona. The estate combines generations of local vineyard knowledge with a modern, precise approach in both the vineyard and the cellar.

The vineyards sit on hillside sites with limestone rich, stony soils that support balanced ripening and naturally bright wines. Traditional stone terraces are part of the landscape, helping manage slopes and water flow. The family has worked these lands since the mid nineteenth century, maintaining a strong link to place while improving equipment and techniques over time.

The name of the estate also connects to an important archaeological story. Beneath the vineyards, remains of a Roman villa were discovered, including striking mosaic floors with geometric and figurative motifs. This heritage has become part of the winery identity and is reflected in the way the family communicates its connection to the land.

Today the winery is led by brothers Simone and Matteo Benedetti, continuing the work shaped by their father Adriano and earlier generations. The range focuses on Valpolicella classics, from Valpolicella Classico to Ripasso, Amarone, and Recioto, with additional wines that reflect the character of the area.

Visits and tastings are available by appointment for guests who want to learn more about the estate, its vineyards, and its wines.
