Description

Valpolicella Ripasso Doc Classico Superiore by Le Marognole

Le Marognole’s Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore blends the freshness of Valpolicella Classico with added depth and structure through the traditional ripasso method. By refermenting on Amarone and Recioto pomace, this wine gains richness, deeper aromas, and a refined balance, without overpowering its elegance.

Aging for 24 months in 500-liter French oak barrels enhances its complexity, introducing subtle balsamic notes that wrap around the ripe cherry and spice found on the nose. On the palate, it remains smooth and expressive, with a well-balanced acidity that gives it freshness and longevity.

With a shelf life of 7-9 years, this Ripasso is ideal with classic Venetian dishes such as tortellini di Valeggio or potato gnocchi with ragù, but it also stands well on its own. Best served at 18°C, it offers a structured yet approachable take on Valpolicella’s winemaking tradition.

About Le Marognole

Le Marognole is a family-run winery in Valgatara di Marano di Valpolicella, founded in 2004 by Fabio Corsi. The estate has deep agricultural roots, as Fabio’s family had cultivated grapes for generations but had always sold them rather than producing wine. After gaining experience in other wineries, he decided to begin vinification using the family’s vineyards, a choice that quickly established Le Marognole as a respected name in Valpolicella. Today, with the support of his wife Eleonora, the winery produces 40,000 bottles annually, gaining recognition for its commitment to quality.

Located in the hills of Valpolicella Classica, between the Verona plain and Lake Garda, the winery takes its name from the marògne, the dry-stone walls that support the terraced vineyards. The estate covers six hectares, planted exclusively with Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella. Every stage of vineyard work is carried out manually, from thinning the bunches to carefully selecting grapes at harvest to ensure only the best fruit is used.

Grapes destined for Amarone and Recioto are dried naturally throughout the winter, concentrating their sugars and aromas. The winery uses temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks for fermentation, allowing precise control over each stage of production. Aging takes place in a combination of large oak barrels and barriques, depending on the wine’s structure and style.

The vineyards include Camporocco and Campogerico, two plots with excellent sun exposure and constant ventilation, situated at 350 meters above sea level. These sites, named by Fabio’s grandmother, produce grapes with strong character, contributing to wines that reflect both the land and the thoughtful approach to winemaking.
