Vintage 2015Exceptional vintage
Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
An exceptional year. A hot, dry summer and an early harvest of very healthy grapes.
A year of extremes: record heat and little rain, with healthy grapes and an early harvest.
The winter was warm, and the following months set twenty year records for maximum temperatures, July above all. April and July were very dry. Flowering came early, in late May and early June, and the heat of July and August did not slow ripening. The hot, dry weather kept downy mildew, powdery mildew and botrytis away, while careful vineyard work eased the stress on the vines. Harvest from about 10 September.
Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Riserva “Monte la Parte” 2015
This Riserva is produced exclusively in the best vintages from the Monte La Parte Cru, a single vineyard on calcareous and tuffaceous soils near the border of the historic Valpolicella Classica zone. The blend is drawn from Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Oseleta, and Molinara, all manually harvested in late September to early October. After harvest, the grape clusters are laid on plateaux in the fruttaio for approximately five months of natural drying, resulting in a weight loss of over 35% and a significant concentration of sugars, aromas, and structure. Vinification involves a long cold maceration and slow temperature-controlled fermentation with regular pump-overs and délestage for balanced extraction. The wine then ages for at least eight years in medium to large French oak barrels, followed by a minimum of two years of bottle aging before release. Only around 1,060 bottles are produced per vintage, reflecting the limited size of the Cru and the selective nature of the Riserva programme.
Daniela Piccoli is a red wine producer based in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy, working within the Valpolicella, Valpolicella Ripasso, and Amarone della Valpolicella appellations. The estate produces wines under named labels including ‘Zefiro,’ ‘Caparbio,’ and ‘La Parte,’ the latter appearing in both standard and Riserva expressions of Amarone. The producer follows the traditional Valpolicella winemaking approach, including the ripasso technique and the use of dried grapes for Amarone.
