Description

Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico Riserva “Bure Alto” by Corte Aleardi

The Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico Riserva “Bure Alto” by Corte Aleardi represents the peak of their wine production. This Amarone is crafted from native grape varieties grown in their own vineyards in the hilly Bure Alto region, the heart of Valpolicella Classico.

Vineyard and Harvest

  • Location: Hilly vineyard in Bure Alto, 180 meters above sea level, east-facing.
  • Training System: Pergola
  • Age of Vines: 12 to 26 years
  • Soil: Calcareous and clay
  • Harvest Period: Mid-September to mid-October
  • Yield: 55 q/ha

Winemaking Process

The grapes, consisting of 80% Corvina, 10% Corvinon, and 10% Rondinella, are carefully selected and harvested in October. They are then dried naturally on large, airy racks until January, concentrating the flavors and sugars.

In January, the dried grapes are softly crushed. The alcoholic fermentation occurs during the winter at low temperatures, preserving the wine’s complexity and integrity.

Aging and Refinement

  • Ageing: 7 years in French tonneaux in their underground cellar
  • Refinement: An additional 12 months in the bottle

Organoleptic Characteristics

  • Color: Intensive ruby red
  • Perfume: A rich bouquet of ripe fruits, plum, cherry, blueberries, spice, cacao, and liquorice
  • Taste: Full-bodied yet silky, with balanced tannins, elegance, and a harmonious finish

Pairing Suggestions

This exquisite Amarone pairs beautifully with game dishes, roasts, and well-matured cheeses. It should be served at 20 degrees Celsius in long-stemmed glasses with a large bowl to fully appreciate its aromas and flavors.

Annual Production

Limited to just 6,000 bottles, each vintage showcases the best that Valpolicella has to offer, produced only in the finest years from the highest quality grapes.

About Corte Aleardi

Corte Aleardi traces its winemaking tradition back to 1789 in Gargagnago, Valpolicella, where the Ferrari family has cultivated vines for generations. Over the past sixty years, production has broadened while still preserving the character of local varieties and time-honoured methods. Bure Alto and Montepalà, the principal vineyards, feature calcareous soils that encourage robust grape development. Hand-harvesting selects only top-quality clusters, destined for Amarone, Recioto, and Valpolicella wines.

Grapes designated for Amarone rest in a loft with natural ventilation, concentrating flavours without haste, known as Appassamento. A 17th-century underground cellar provides stable temperatures and humidity for aging, while a restored area addresses vinification and bottling using current techniques. This blend of tradition and innovation can be seen in Corte Aleardi’s Amarone Riserva, prized for depth, as well as their Valpolicella Classico Superiore, Valpolicella Ripasso, and Recioto.

Every bottle underscores the family’s respect for the region and for sustainable practices. The original cellar from centuries ago remains in daily use, linking past and present in a place devoted to producing distinctive wines that capture the spirit of Gargagnago and the broader Valpolicella area.
