Description

Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Riserva “Leone Zardini” by Pietro Zardini

A bold expression of Valpolicella, this Amarone Riserva is made from carefully selected Corvina (70%), Rondinella (20%), and Molinara (10%) grapes, grown on light-colored soils rich in limestone, marl, and basalt. Hand-harvested from hillside vineyards, the grapes undergo a meticulous drying process for approximately four months, concentrating their flavors before an extended fermentation on the skins lasting 6-8 weeks.

The wine matures for four years in a combination of amphora, oak barrels, and tonneaux, followed by further refinement in the bottle. This slow aging process results in a deep ruby red color with garnet reflections and a layered bouquet of ripe fruit, cocoa, coffee, and spices.

On the palate, it is warm, full-bodied, and harmonious, with a lingering aftertaste of dried fruit, fine wood, and a subtle amphora influence. With its 16.5% alcohol content, this Amarone carries remarkable depth while maintaining balance and finesse.

Ideal for aging, it reaches its full potential over 10-15 years. Best served at 18°C, after uncorking 2-4 hours in advance to allow the wine to open up.

Food Pairing:
This Amarone is a great companion for red meats, Fiorentina steak, game such as venison and wild boar, and aged cheeses. It also suits quiet moments by the fireplace, offering a rich and contemplative drinking experience.

About Pietro Zardini

The Pietro Zardini Winery represents an ongoing story deeply connected to Valpolicella, originating in the early 1600s with Leonardo Zardini, a passionate winemaker and the family’s forefather. From humble beginnings in the Valpolicella Classico region, generations of Zardinis have tirelessly cultivated their vines, transforming a modest family farm into the contemporary winery of today.

Each generation has left a distinctive mark: Giacinto, whose determination was legendary; Pietro, admired locally for the powerful oxen he raised; Leone, whose spirit inspired the Amarone Riserva; and finally Pietro Zardini himself, carrying forward their shared passion into modern winemaking.

Today, Pietro blends historical wisdom with contemporary vision, producing wines that combine classic aromas with intriguing nuances. His wines harmoniously balance familiar tastes and innovative methods, connecting the traditions of yesterday with the creativity of today.

About Pietro Zardini
Pietro’s own story began in the old family cellar, Corte Zardini, in San Floriano, surrounded by the scents and sounds of rural life. His formative years were steeped in memories of vineyards, cherry trees, fields worked by hand, and vivid family tales. After specializing in viticulture, Pietro began collaborating at the age of 19 with renowned wineries in the Verona area, developing an approach that reflects both respect for tradition and openness to new ideas.

The result is a unique collection of wines authentically linked to Valpolicella’s past, yet confidently looking towards its future. This vision defines #garantitodapietrozardini, a promise of wines produced thoughtfully and passionately, respecting the rich roots from which they grew.
