Description

Amarone della Valpolicella Docg “Valmezzane” by Corte Sant’Alda

Corte Sant’Alda is known for its flagship wine, the Amarone, which is made from a selection of Corvina, Rondinella, and Corvinone grapes grown in the winery’s Roaro, Valletta, Bosco, Pra Alto, and Retratto vineyards located in the Val di Mezzane region at an altitude of 350 meters. The mild climate and limestone-rich soil of this area, influenced by nearby Lake Garda and its cooling breezes, contribute to the unique character of the grapes.

At Corte Sant’Alda, the philosophy is to allow the vineyard to follow its natural process, intervening only when necessary. This approach results in a lively vineyard with a range of scents and colors that offer distinct feelings and emotions. These same emotions can be found in the Amarone, which is made from grapes that have been dried for 120 days in special wooden boxes. The wine is then fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for at least 48 months in French oak barrels ranging in size from 5 to 25 hectoliters. During this time, the Amarone continues to develop in intensity and complexity, and in the glass, it offers a full-bodied, fresh wine with jammy berry flavors and hints of spice and coffee.

About Corte Sant'Alda

Corte Sant’Alda is more than a winery, it’s a living expression of intuition, patience, and a deep connection to the land. Born from a need to cultivate healthier, more expressive grapes, the vineyard has evolved over decades, balancing tradition with an openness to change. The soil, the vines, and the cellar exist in harmony, each decision shaped by respect for nature’s rhythms rather than rigid control.

The story began in 1985, when an unsatisfactory harvest sparked a shift in approach. With careful adjustments to planting density and training systems, the vineyard transformed, favouring methods that encourage vitality over forced uniformity. The introduction of organic and biodynamic principles further solidified this philosophy, ensuring that every bottle reflects the land in its purest form.

In the cellar, the approach remains equally thoughtful. Grapes are hand-harvested at peak ripeness, with spontaneous fermentations led by native yeasts. The aging process unfolds in oak of varying sizes and ages, allowing each wine to develop depth and character at its own pace.

Walking through the vineyards, one is met with wild herbs and flowers, mint, chamomile, arugula, natural companions to the vines, lending their essence to the air and, perhaps, even to the wines themselves. At Corte Sant'Alda, the goal is not to tame nature, but to work alongside it, creating wines that are honest, expressive, and deeply rooted in the place they come from.
