Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
A very good year. Warm weather, plenty of water and a balanced harvest.
A warm year with good water reserves, balanced ripening and a slightly early harvest.
Spring was cold at first, then warm, with repeated spells of cold air and a lot of rain in the hills. Early summer was cool and unstable; from late July it turned hot, with local storms. Strong storms in early September caused local damage, with landslides and flooding in some vineyards. Harvest began on 10 September, four days ahead of the average, with good sugar, balanced acidity and heavier berries thanks to plenty of water.
Valpolicella Doc Superiore “Mithas” by Corte Sant’Alda
Introducing our Valpolicella Doc Superiore “Mithas” by Corte Sant’Alda—a true embodiment of painstaking attention to detail and a relentless pursuit for avant-garde excellence. Originating from the very convictions that separate the acceptable from the exceptional, each bottle of “Mithas” offers a unique experience that might even defy availability due to its selective production.
Nestled in the Macie vineyards that grace the northern and western parts of the Corte Sant’Alda estates, each grapevine soaks in abundant sunlight at an elevation of 350 meters above sea level. With the prestigious organic certification and managed under the principles of bio-dynamic agriculture, our vineyards stand as a testament to responsible and mindful winemaking. Notably, these were the first vineyards in the area to adopt the Guyot system, thereby setting the tone for ‘quality’ in a domain where Valpolicella was once simply equated with quantity and price.
The soil—stony, chalky, and shallow—hosts an impressive density of 4,500 Corvina and Corvina Grossa grape plants per hectare. When ripened to perfection, these grapes lend the wine an extraordinary individuality, marked by intense concentration and richness. Harvested meticulously at the end of October, the grapes find themselves fermenting naturally in oak vats for over 20 days, guided only by the seasonal temperature changes of Autumn. After about two years of maturation in somewhat aged 5 hl. barrels, the wine is bottled, capturing its essence in each vessel.
What sets Mithas Valpolicella apart is its distinctive character, mirroring the very soul of the Valpolicella land. The minerals, spices, and pepper intertwine in a complex dance, leaving a subtle yet firmly persistent after-taste. This intricacy is further accentuated in years with less rainfall, making each vintage a unique narrative of its own.
Experience the Valpolicella Doc Superiore “Mithas” by Corte Sant’Alda and indulge in a wine that is not merely a drink, but an eloquent expression of our unwavering commitment to excellence.

Corte Sant’Alda is more than a winery, it’s a living expression of intuition, patience, and a deep connection to the land. Born from a need to cultivate healthier, more expressive grapes, the vineyard has evolved over decades, balancing tradition with an openness to change. The soil, the vines, and the cellar exist in harmony, each decision shaped by respect for nature’s rhythms rather than rigid control.
The story began in 1985, when an unsatisfactory harvest sparked a shift in approach. With careful adjustments to planting density and training systems, the vineyard transformed, favouring methods that encourage vitality over forced uniformity. The introduction of organic and biodynamic principles further solidified this philosophy, ensuring that every bottle reflects the land in its purest form.
In the cellar, the approach remains equally thoughtful. Grapes are hand-harvested at peak ripeness, with spontaneous fermentations led by native yeasts. The aging process unfolds in oak of varying sizes and ages, allowing each wine to develop depth and character at its own pace.
Walking through the vineyards, one is met with wild herbs and flowers, mint, chamomile, arugula, natural companions to the vines, lending their essence to the air and, perhaps, even to the wines themselves. At Corte Sant'Alda, the goal is not to tame nature, but to work alongside it, creating wines that are honest, expressive, and deeply rooted in the place they come from.
