Description

Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico by Tommaso Bussola

Indulge in the exquisite craftsmanship of Tommaso Bussola with the Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico, a symphony of tradition and taste. This remarkable wine blends select grape varieties: 35% Corvina, 30% Corvinone, 30% Rondinella, and 5% Molinara, each contributing to its unique character.

Origin & Terroir:
Grown on the sun-kissed hills near Negrar di Valpolicella, the grapes thrive at altitudes ranging from 280 to 450 meters above sea level. The vineyards, aged from 10 to 50 years, are meticulously tended using both Pergola Veronese and Guyot training systems, ensuring a density of 6000 vines per hectare. Their South-East and South-West exposure guarantees optimum sunlight, essential for the grapes’ rich flavor.

Winemaking Excellence:
The Amarone journey begins in mid-September, with the careful selection of grapes. Post-harvest, the grapes are transferred to the Fruttaio, where they undergo a natural drying process on plastic plateaux for four months. In January, the grapes are meticulously selected again, pressed, and transferred to tanks. Here, fermentation kickstarts with selected yeasts, followed by 50 days of diligent pumping-overs and delestage, enhancing the wine’s depth and complexity. Post-fermentation, the wine is refined in steel tanks and wooden barrels, where it completes its fermentation and aging process.

Meticulous Aging:
The Amarone Classico ages for 48 months, maturing in a blend of 55% twice-used 500l tonneaux, 30% in 225l barriques, and 15% in 25hl barrels. This aging process imbues the wine with a harmonious balance of oak and fruit, yielding a richness and complexity that is unparalleled.

Bottling & Availability:
After its noble aging, the Amarone Classico is bottled and rests for an additional 6 months before release. The annual production is limited to approximately 20,000 bottles, making each one a coveted treasure.

Experience the essence of Valpolicella in every sip of Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico by Tommaso Bussola – a true masterpiece of winemaking, waiting to be discovered by connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike.

About Tommaso Bussola

Tommaso Bussola began his work in winemaking in 1977, taking over his uncle Giuseppe’s small winery in Valpolicella Classica. With a sharp focus and a strong-willed approach, he initially followed local traditions, producing wines under the ‘BG’ label. Over time, he sought to refine his methods, leading to a turning point in 1983 when he personally selected the grapes for his first Amarone and Recioto.

A new phase began in the early 1990s with the construction of a new cellar and the use of barriques, allowing for a carefully managed aging process. This shift led to the creation of the ‘TB’ label, marking a commitment to precision and quality that is now recognized beyond Italy.

In 1995, Tommaso’s wife, Daniela, became an integral part of the winery, and in 2005, their sons, Paolo and Giuseppe, followed. Today, the family continues to uphold Valpolicella’s long-standing winemaking traditions while refining their approach with each vintage.

Winemaking Approach

Attention to detail begins in the vineyard, where grapes are picked by hand and carefully selected, from those destined for drying to those pressed immediately. The winery continuously works to refine its methods, adapting techniques in both the vineyard and cellar to bring out the best in each harvest.

Sustainability plays a key role in their philosophy, with natural methods used to maintain soil health and manage pests. By working closely with the land and respecting the natural balance of the vines, the Bussola family produces wines that reflect both their region and their commitment to continuous improvement.
