Vintage 2020
Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
A very good year. A dry spring, then a very rainy summer; quality varied from area to area.
An uneven year: dry until flowering, then very wet, with a harvest that varied from area to area.
January to May was drier and slightly warmer than usual. June to August brought 575 mm of rain at San Pietro in Cariano and 461 mm at Illasi, against about 230 mm in a normal year, with some hail in June and August. Downy mildew pressed hard after the rains, luckily once fruit set was over; later, botrytis and rot needed care, helped by the September weather. Picking began around 13 September.
Valpolicella Doc Superiore by Marion
Marion’s Valpolicella Classico Superiore is a pure expression of the historic winemaking traditions of the region. The estate, located in the hills north of Verona, carefully cultivates Corvina and Rondinella on limestone-rich soils, preserving the identity of these native grape varieties.
The winemaking process emphasizes balance and authenticity. The grapes undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks with skin contact, while a portion is set aside for a brief drying period, adding depth and softness to the final blend. The wine then matures for 30 months in oak barrels of different sizes, allowing its structure and aromas to develop harmoniously.
In the glass, this Valpolicella displays a bright ruby-red color. The nose is elegant and inviting, with notes of sour cherry, red currant, raspberry, and delicate floral hints, alongside touches of wild herbs and soft spices. Medium-bodied, it has fine tannins and a lively acidity that complements the fresh, juicy fruit. A subtle mineral note enhances the clean and vibrant finish.
This wine is a versatile choice for the table, pairing well with pasta dishes, roasted meats, and poultry, making it a great option for everyday enjoyment.

Marion Winery – A Balance of Tradition and Innovation
Marion Winery is a family-run estate located in the Marcellise Valley, just east of Verona. The winery focuses on expressing the character of the region through careful vineyard management and thoughtful winemaking.
History & Philosophy
With roots in an area known for viticulture since ancient times, Marion has embraced both traditional and modern approaches to crafting high-quality wines. The estate is committed to producing wines that respect the land while allowing each grape variety to express its unique qualities.
Location & Terroir
The vineyards sit at 100-150 meters above sea level, benefiting from a north-south exposure and well-drained limestone-rich soils with clay and scattered stones. The microclimate, influenced by nearby Lake Garda, supports optimal grape ripening while maintaining freshness and complexity.
Wines & Winemaking
Marion produces a range of wines, from Amarone della Valpolicella to carefully crafted blends like "Calto". The winery employs selective harvesting, partial drying techniques (appassimento), and long aging in Slavonian oak barrels to develop structure and complexity.
Each wine reflects a balance of power and refinement, with careful attention to preserving the quality of the fruit and the characteristics of the land.
