Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
A very good year. Warm weather, plenty of water and a balanced harvest.
A warm year with good water reserves, balanced ripening and a slightly early harvest.
Spring was cold at first, then warm, with repeated spells of cold air and a lot of rain in the hills. Early summer was cool and unstable; from late July it turned hot, with local storms. Strong storms in early September caused local damage, with landslides and flooding in some vineyards. Harvest began on 10 September, four days ahead of the average, with good sugar, balanced acidity and heavier berries thanks to plenty of water.
Amarone della Valpolicella Docg by Torre di Terzolan
This dry red Amarone comes from hillside vineyards at 350 meters above sea level, rooted in medium textured white limestone soils. Trained in Guyot and composed of 50% Corvina, 40% Corvinone and 10% Rondinella, the wine expresses the character of the Valpolicella hills with depth and precision.
Harvest begins in the second half of September, when the finest bunches from the oldest vineyards are carefully selected and placed in plateaux for the natural drying process inside the historic estate building. Vinification starts in December with a short cold maceration, followed by a long fermentation at low temperature, supported by daily remontage and delestage to build structure and aromatic complexity. The wine matures for 36 months in new French barriques and amphorae, then rests for a further 36 months in bottle before release, sealed with natural cork.
In the glass it shows a deep ruby red colour with bright luminosity and vivid intensity. The bouquet opens with notes of raisins and dried figs, layered with hints of malt, dark chocolate and dried berries, alongside spicy nuances of black pepper and a subtle touch of preserved fruit. On the palate it is powerful yet composed, with well integrated tannins and clear acidity that supports the fruit and gives energy to the structure. The finish is long and persistent. With 16.5% alcohol, 6.2 g/l total acidity and 1.3 g/l residual sugar, it is a structured Amarone suitable for long ageing and ideal with rich meat dishes, game and aged cheeses.

In the upper Val Squaranto, 350 metres above sea level, Torre di Terzolan stands as a historic rural settlement surrounded by woods, meadows, vineyards and olive trees. This green landscape, rich in biodiversity and layered soils of clay and carbonate rock, provides the foundation for wines of depth and character. The three hectares of vineyards are cultivated exclusively with organic methods, guided by respect for natural cycles and careful human intervention. The estate vineyards La Mezzaluna, La Pala, Il Binte and Il Brolo are planted with indigenous varieties Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Croatina.
An ancient irrigation system still runs through the property. Water flows gently from a lake of water lilies into small stone channels that cross the meadows and parkland before reaching the vines, then continues its path down into the valley. The mineral composition of the soil, visible in its varied colours, contributes to the identity of the wines.
At the heart of the estate lies the historic winery, a space of arches, stone and quiet. A small staircase leads into cellars where wine has been produced for centuries and where the pace of time slows naturally. Under the ancient portico, carefully hand selected bunches are laid in small trays to undergo natural drying, encouraged by the fresh breezes of the Squaranto Valley that pass through the architecturally oriented structure. Here, tradition, patience and knowledge shape the appassimento process before vinification begins.
The historic residence of Cardinal Ridolfi, marked by its coat of arms with bull and cart, tells the story of the Venetian patrician family connected to this land. Today it serves as the elegant home of Torre di Terzolan. Guests are welcomed into frescoed rooms designed for calm and comfort. Four suites combine marble, glass and textiles in refined harmony, offering a setting for quiet and restorative stays in a place where history, nature and wine coexist with balance and authenticity.
