Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG by Musella
The Amarone from Musella winery is a powerful and structured red wine produced from espalier grown vines in the on the rolling hills of Valpolicella, in the north-east of Verona. The winery, which has been following the biodynamic philosophy for years, is trying to make the most of the territorial potential by seeking purity in taste and also making courageous choices by deciding not to always go along with the fashions dictated by the market. This Amarone is produced with Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta grapes, coming from three different vineyards: the Perlar and the Palazzina, whose soils are calcareous with a prevalence of ferrous red clay and the Monte del Drago which stands out for having a soil more of a medium clayey and tuffaceous mixture.
After the harvest, which takes place towards the end of September to obtain grapes with a higher concentration of sugars, the grape bunches are collected in boxes and arranged to dry in a ventilated room (fruttaio). Thanks to this method the grapes lose more than 35% of water concentrating even more the sugars. The soft pressing of the grapes takes place in February and the winemaking process begins with a low temperature fermentation followed by a long maceration that allows the maximum extraction of the fruit. The wine then matures in French oak tonneaux and large barrels for a period of about 12 months, after which it is bottled and aged in the bottle for a further 8 months before being put on the market.
The Amarone della Valpolicella by Musella has an intense garnet red color. On the nose there are hints of ripe red fruit, black cherry, fig, sweet spices such as cinnamon and chocolate, with subtle notes of green pepper. In the mouth it is rich and enveloping, full-bodied, and with a well-present acidity even if partially masked by the high alcohol content. The finish is long, with pleasant aromas of black cherry and molasses. This label from the Musella winery is an Amarone made as it once was, a synthesis of power, elegance and warmth.
