Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
A very good year. Warm weather, plenty of water and a balanced harvest.
A warm year with good water reserves, balanced ripening and a slightly early harvest.
Spring was cold at first, then warm, with repeated spells of cold air and a lot of rain in the hills. Early summer was cool and unstable; from late July it turned hot, with local storms. Strong storms in early September caused local damage, with landslides and flooding in some vineyards. Harvest began on 10 September, four days ahead of the average, with good sugar, balanced acidity and heavier berries thanks to plenty of water.
Amarone della Valpolicella Docg “Ciliegio” by La Collina dei Ciliegi
The Amarone “Ciliegio” stands out for its bold character and depth, shaped through careful selection and a slow, natural drying process. Only the finest, sun-ripened grape clusters are hand-picked at the end of September, with a second selection taking place after approximately 100 days of drying. During this time, the grapes concentrate their flavors while losing nearly 40% of their weight.
Following destemming and gentle crushing, fermentation occurs under controlled temperatures in stainless steel vats. Maceration extends for 30 days, with a focus on maintaining delicate structure through daily délestage and light pump-overs. The wine then rests for 36 months in new French oak barriques and tonneaux, gaining complexity before final aging in the bottle for another eight months.
In the glass, it reveals a deep, bright garnet red color. The nose opens with rich notes of cherries soaked in spirit, layered with plum preserves, sweet spices, and cocoa. On the palate, it strikes with powerful structure, yet manages to maintain fluidity and finesse. The tannins, though pronounced, are rounded and smooth, bringing a graceful close to each sip.
A natural match for rich, hearty dishes such as braised beef in wine or slow-cooked game meats. With time, it also pairs elegantly with dark chocolate, lending itself to quiet moments of contemplation.

La Collina dei Ciliegi is a winery located in the Valpantena region, north of Verona, Italy. Founded in 2005 by Massimo Gianolli and Stefano Falla, the estate spans approximately 58 hectares, with vineyards situated between 450 and 700 meters above sea level.
The winery produces a range of wines, including Amarone, Valpolicella Superiore, Valpolicella Ripasso, Recioto, and Brut. Grape varieties cultivated include Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, Rondinella, Garganega, Chardonnay, and Pinot Blanc.
La Collina dei Ciliegi emphasizes sustainable and organic farming practices. Since 2023, the vineyards have been officially certified for organic cultivation, reflecting the winery's attention to environmental stewardship.
In addition to winemaking, the estate offers hospitality services through its Ca' del Moro Wine Retreat. This facility, created from the restoration of old stables and a barn in the village of Erbin, combines rustic architecture with modern amenities. Guests can participate in wine tastings, cooking classes, and outdoor activities such as horseback riding and e-bike tours.
La Collina dei Ciliegi also engages in social initiatives, including the Vini del Duomo project in collaboration with the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo. Proceeds from the sales of specific wines contribute to the restoration of the Milan Cathedral.
