Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
A very good year. A dry spring, then a very rainy summer; quality varied from area to area.
An uneven year: dry until flowering, then very wet, with a harvest that varied from area to area.
January to May was drier and slightly warmer than usual. June to August brought 575 mm of rain at San Pietro in Cariano and 461 mm at Illasi, against about 230 mm in a normal year, with some hail in June and August. Downy mildew pressed hard after the rains, luckily once fruit set was over; later, botrytis and rot needed care, helped by the September weather. Picking began around 13 September.
Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico Riserva “Campo del Titari”
The Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico Riserva “Campo del Titari” by Brunelli is an exceptional red wine, produced in limited quantities and only in the finest vintages. It pays tribute to the family’s spirited and majestic horse, Titari, a symbol of elegance and strength that perfectly mirrors the character of this wine. Crafted using time-honored traditions, this Amarone blends Corvinone, Corvina, Rondinella, and Oseleta grapes, grown at 450 meters above sea level in San Pietro in Cariano. The vines benefit from the unique terrain, composed of stones, pebbles, and limestone, and thrive in a climate marked by hot summers and long, cold winters.
Each step of the winemaking process is carefully monitored, beginning with a meticulous double selection of grapes. The harvested fruit undergoes a traditional appassimento, where it is dried over the winter months to concentrate its flavors. After fermentation, the wine matures in large oak barrels for 48 months, adding layers of complexity.
In the glass, the “Campo del Titari” displays a deep, intense ruby hue with subtle garnet reflections. Its bouquet is rich with aromas of ripe cherry, raspberry, and red currant, intertwined with hints of vanilla, cocoa beans, and sweet pipe tobacco. On the palate, this wine reveals a robust, powerful structure balanced by an elegant acidity. The tannins are firm yet seamlessly integrated, leading to a long and persistent finish that echoes the wine’s aromatic complexity.
This bold, character-driven Amarone is a perfect match for hearty red meat dishes, braised game, and aged cheeses. To fully appreciate its nuances, decant the wine at least two hours before serving. Alcohol content: 17% Vol.

The Brunelli family has been rooted in San Pietro in Cariano, in the heart of Valpolicella Classica, since the 18th century. This region is positioned between Verona and Lake Garda, where mineral-rich limestone soils, mild breezes, and indigenous grape varieties come together under an ideal south-southwest exposure. The traditional process of appassimento, enhancing sugar and extract concentration, has deep ties to this land.
Today, the winery is guided by Alberto Brunelli and his parents, Luciana and Luigi. Their approach unites expertise with a personal vision for wines that reflect the nature of their makers. Amarone Riserva Campo del Titari, with its unapologetic strength, brings to mind Luigiโs resolute personality, while Amarone Riserva Campo Inferi conveys gentler shades, echoing Lucianaโs graceful style.
From an early age, Alberto observed the cycle of the seasons, the aromas of vineyards, and the evolution of grapes into wine. He recognized that every cuvรฉe carries distinct traits, sometimes evoking family members. Valpolicellaโs primary varieties, Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Oseleta, thrive here, including revived native grapes. Double Low Pergola and Espalier training methods link modern techniques with generations of knowledge.
The familyโs aim is to highlight the character of local grapes through flavours and fragrances that set their wines apart. With an emphasis on natureโs pace, thoughtful practices in the vineyard, and close attention to quality, Brunelli wines offer a genuine taste of Valpolicellaโs identity, rooted in passion and tradition.
