Description

Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Riserva 2018  by Musella

The Amarone Riserva by Musella represents a perfect example of biodynamic agriculture in the heart of Valpolicella. It is in fact the result of the attention and of careful choices made by the Pasqua family, which manages the large estate in a rural courtyard subjected to conservative restoration, where tourists are also welcomed in a rural fairy-tale environment. The land covers an area of 400 hectares, which form an integrated micro-system of meadows, woods and crops which also include the vineyards, the engine and history of the winery, managed by embracing the biodynamic philosophy with Demeter certification. One of Musella’s aims is to re-link the quality of the wines to the authenticity of the Valpolicella territory, beyond the pure logic of a taste that, year after year, has often followed the market more and more.

Musella Amarone Riserva is made up of 70% Corvina and Corvinone grapes, 20% Rondinella and the remaining 10% Oseleta. The vines belong to different vineyards, located in different areas within the estate: therefore there are calcareous soils with ferrous red clay within Il Perlar and Palazzina, medium-textured soils characterized by clay and tuff in Monte del Drago. The harvest takes place between the end of August and mid-September, the bunches are selected and collected in baskets, and then placed in a suitably ventilated room for the 4-month drying process, until the grapes have lost 35% of their weight. . In January we then move on to soft pressing and low temperature fermentation, with a long maceration. The 24 months of aging in wood are followed by at least another 12 in the bottle.

The Amarone Riserva by Musella becomes an ambassador of the nuances that an Amarone can have in the same bottle. In the glass it appears a bright garnet red, very intense and dense. Very enveloping and perturbing aromas arrive on the nose: ranging from morello cherries and cherries in alcohol to oriental spices, passing through vegetal but not green hints, more linked to the bark of trees (almost a direct reference to the woods surrounding the Musella vineyards) . After all, there is also a memory of undergrowth, of humus. In the mouth it is satisfying and wide, the silkiness stands out as if it were velvet that slides on the sides of the tongue. It is enveloping and soft, perfectly balanced with a dense and consistent tannic texture. Why not try it also with excellent quality dark chocolate?

About Musella

Located within a historic 16th-century estate, Musella Winery combines tradition with modern winemaking in a setting surrounded by meadows and the Fibbio stream. Once a noble stable, the carefully restored cellar now houses barrels where wines mature under ideal conditions, complemented by state-of-the-art winemaking facilities.

Spanning nearly 400 hectares, the estate benefits from diverse soil compositions across three vineyard sites, allowing for a range of expressions in its wines. The estate follows biodynamic principles, a practice rooted in deep respect for the land. Certified by Demeter since 2014 and BDA Farmers since 2020, Musella embraces a holistic approach that avoids synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, instead relying on natural cycles and soil vitality.

The winery welcomes guests for guided tastings, where small groups can explore Musella’s wines alongside regional specialties like Monte Veronese cheese. Visitors can also stay at the Country Relais, where historic charm meets comfortable hospitality.

Musella’s vineyards, Monte del Drago, Perlar, and Palazzina, are rich in biodiversity, with plantings of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Oseleta, and select international varieties. The soils range from clay and tufa to red earth, contributing complexity and depth to each vintage.

Through careful vineyard administration and a philosophy that respects nature’s rhythms, Musella produces wines that reflect both the character of the land and the thoughtful techniques behind each bottle.
