Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
An exceptional year. A hot, dry summer and an early harvest of very healthy grapes.
A year of extremes: record heat and little rain, with healthy grapes and an early harvest.
The winter was warm, and the following months set twenty year records for maximum temperatures, July above all. April and July were very dry. Flowering came early, in late May and early June, and the heat of July and August did not slow ripening. The hot, dry weather kept downy mildew, powdery mildew and botrytis away, while careful vineyard work eased the stress on the vines. Harvest from about 10 September.
Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG “Senza Titolo” 2015 by Musella
An incredible Amarone wine from Musella, produced ‘as naturally as possible’ from an ‘obsessive grape selection’. A must-try for any serious Amarone connoisseur.
Assemblage: Corvina and corvinone 70%, rondinella 10%, oseleta 10%, croatina 7%, others 3%.
Soil: Calcareous with red clay and tufo
Winemaking techniques: After pressing, 100 days after the harvest, four or five people discard even a single grape if it isn’t perfectly healthy. The pressing is done by feet, the dry stems left in to add some extra tannin, while the fermentation is done with indigenous yeasts at non-controlled temperatures in a conical oak fermenting vat. They do “follature” daily by hand until the fermentation naturally slows after a few months.
Ageing: At least 3 years in massive, untoasted barrels (700 litres) so as to minimally intervene in the final wine.
Alcohol: 16.31%
Colour: Owing to the lack of filtration or clarification the wine is deeply opaque, a purple-garnet with brick edges.
Aromas: Still rich and powerful, but with extraordinary delicate, floral notes, with some cocoa and smokey elements sneaking in as well.
Palate: Hugely structured, but velvety and balanced nonetheless, with wonderful freshness even after a decade.

Located within a historic 16th-century estate, Musella Winery combines tradition with modern winemaking in a setting surrounded by meadows and the Fibbio stream. Once a noble stable, the carefully restored cellar now houses barrels where wines mature under ideal conditions, complemented by state-of-the-art winemaking facilities.
Spanning nearly 400 hectares, the estate benefits from diverse soil compositions across three vineyard sites, allowing for a range of expressions in its wines. The estate follows biodynamic principles, a practice rooted in deep respect for the land. Certified by Demeter since 2014 and BDA Farmers since 2020, Musella embraces a holistic approach that avoids synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, instead relying on natural cycles and soil vitality.
The winery welcomes guests for guided tastings, where small groups can explore Musella’s wines alongside regional specialties like Monte Veronese cheese. Visitors can also stay at the Country Relais, where historic charm meets comfortable hospitality.
Musella’s vineyards, Monte del Drago, Perlar, and Palazzina, are rich in biodiversity, with plantings of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Oseleta, and select international varieties. The soils range from clay and tufa to red earth, contributing complexity and depth to each vintage.
Through careful vineyard administration and a philosophy that respects nature’s rhythms, Musella produces wines that reflect both the character of the land and the thoughtful techniques behind each bottle.
