Description

Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG “Marne 180” by Tedeschi

Tedeschi’s Amarone della Valpolicella “Marne 180” represents centuries of winemaking expertise, bringing together structure, depth, and balance. Sourced from the rolling hills of Valpolicella, this red wine is crafted from a blend of 35% Corvina, 35% Corvinone, 20% Rondinella, and 10% Rossignola, with vines averaging 20 years of age. The vineyards rest on red clay and limestone soils, reinforced by a solid rock foundation, providing an ideal environment for these grapes to flourish.

Harvested between late September and early October, only the finest bunches are selected for a meticulous drying process lasting about four months. This technique intensifies flavors by reducing water content while concentrating natural sugars. The importance of this stage is even reflected on the wine’s label, honoring the transformation that defines Amarone.

Fermentation takes place over 40 to 60 days in temperature-controlled steel tanks, allowing for a slow, steady extraction of flavors. The wine then rests in Slavonian oak barrels for 36 months, developing a rich, velvety texture.

Tasting Notes

Color: Deep ruby red.
Aroma: Layers of berry jam and cherries, complemented by hints of vanilla, chocolate, and a touch of mint.
Palate: Full-bodied and warm, with refined tannins and a lingering finish that highlights the character of Valpolicella’s terroir.

The Meaning of “Marne 180”

The name “Marne 180” reflects both the land and the vineyard’s exposure. “Marne” refers to the marl-rich soil, which contributes to the wine’s structure, while “180” signifies the vineyard’s orientation from southwest to southeast, maximizing sunlight and ventilation for optimal grape ripening.

This Amarone pairs beautifully with red meats and aged cheeses. Serve at 16-18°C. While enjoyable now, its complexity allows for long-term aging, further enhancing its depth over time.

About Tedeschi

A Story Rooted in Valpolicella

Tedeschi has built a strong reputation for producing wines that reflect the character of Valpolicella, combining tradition with innovation. Years of research and careful vineyard management have allowed the family to develop wines that express a deep connection to their land. Sustainability is a key part of their approach, with certifications such as Biodiversity Friend and Equalitas ensuring responsible practices that respect the environment. Every decision, from vine selection to cultivation methods, is guided by a commitment to quality.

Monte Olmi
Monte Olmi, a historic vineyard in Pedemonte within the Valpolicella Classica region, was acquired by Lorenzo Tedeschi in 1918. This site has been at the heart of the family’s winemaking philosophy, producing Amarone Capitel Monte Olmi since 1964. The vineyard's terraced landscape, shaped by generations of careful cultivation, provides an ideal setting for grapes that develop depth and complexity. The wine has remained a benchmark for its refined structure and long-lasting character.

La Fabriseria
Located in Le Pontare, between Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella and Fumane, La Fabriseria was planted in the early 2000s. The vineyard is marked by two ancient crosses, believed to be of Celtic origin, that once guided travelers on their way to a nearby sanctuary. The name "La Fabriseria" comes from a local tradition where the village parish council, including the Tedeschi family's ancestors, would gather and conclude their meetings with a tasting of the finest wines. Today, the name is honored through two exceptional wines, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva La Fabriseria and Valpolicella Classico Superiore La Fabriseria, both made from carefully selected grapes grown in this vineyard.

Maternigo
Acquired in 2006, Maternigo ("mother’s land") is a unique estate spanning 84 hectares in Valpolicella’s DOC zone, between Tregnago and Mezzane di Sotto. The property includes a historic building, likely of monastic origin, dating back to the 15th century. Today, the estate features 34 hectares of vineyards and two hectares of olive groves, surrounded by forest. Extensive research led to the identification of two exceptional vineyard sites: Impervio, named for its steep incline, which produces Valpolicella Superiore Maternigo, and Barila, known for its ideal conditions for Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva Maternigo Cru.

With a history spanning generations, Tedeschi continues to refine its winemaking through meticulous vineyard management, sustainable practices, and a deep respect for Valpolicella’s land.
