Vintage 2021
From the vintage reports of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella
A changeable year that ended well: a dry September gave healthy grapes.
A changeable season with late flowering and a dry September that gave healthy grapes.
March was very dry; April and May brought about 210 mm, close to normal, and June almost none. July to September had about 200 mm, some 50 mm below the average. Flowering came about ten days late and veraison about nine days late. Downy mildew needed precise work in May and June, and powdery mildew caused modest damage in a few sensitive spots. Dry weather in September kept botrytis away, and picking began around 15 September.

Valpolicella Ripasso Doc Classico Superiore by Villabella
This Valpolicella Ripasso DOC Classico Superiore from Villabella is crafted from Corvina, Rondinella and Corvinone grapes grown in Valpolicella Classica, following the traditional Ripasso method on the Amarone pomace.
The vines thrive on calcareous-clay soils in the Fumane hills, trained in the Pergola Veronese system and hand-harvested in late September to early October. After primary fermentation in stainless steel with a submerged-cap technique for about 10 days, the wine undergoes a Ripasso phase in spring, resting on rich Amarone vinacce to gain structure and complexity.
The wine then ages in large Slavonian oak barrels and partially in tonneaux, followed by bottle refinement.
In the glass the wine presents a bright ruby-red hue. On the nose there are vivid notes of cherry, bramble-berry, blueberry and plum, accompanied by spice echoes of pepper and cinnamon. On the palate it is dry, well-structured and rich in red fruit character with subtle marmalade hints and elegant spicy traces of clove and pepper.
This versatile red performs well throughout a meat-based meal and also pairs with medium-aged cheeses.

Vigneti Villabella is a family-owned winery based in Calmasino, near Lake Garda, at the heart of Veneto’s historic wine region. Founded in 1971 by Walter Delibori and Giorgio Cristoforetti, the estate has grown to encompass around 220 hectares of vineyards, each chosen for its distinctive soil and exposure.
The vineyards extend across the classic Veronese areas, from the morainic hills of Bardolino and the shores of Lake Garda to the limestone and clay slopes of Valpolicella Classica near Fumane. These diverse terroirs and the gentle climate moderated by the lake allow the production of wines with both freshness and depth.
Villabella’s range includes the great denominations of the region, Bardolino, Chiaretto, Valpolicella, Ripasso, Amarone, Lugana, Custoza, Soave, and Garda. Each wine is the result of attentive vineyard management and a strong focus on sustainability. A growing portion of the estate’s vineyards is cultivated organically, reflecting a long-term vision of environmental responsibility.
At the center of the estate stands Tenuta Villa Cordevigo, an 18th-century Venetian villa surrounded by vineyards. This is not only the heart of Villabella’s viticulture but also a place of hospitality and culture, where organic and sustainable farming methods guide every decision.
In the cellar, Villabella combines traditional Veronese varieties, Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella, with modern techniques that preserve fruit purity and structure. Wines are aged in large oak casks or barriques, depending on style, always aiming to highlight balance and authenticity.
Vigneti Villabella represents the harmony between land, tradition, and innovation, offering wines that express the true character of the Veneto region with elegance and integrity.
