Vintage 2018
Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
A very good year. Warm weather, plenty of water and a balanced harvest.
A warm year with good water reserves, balanced ripening and a slightly early harvest.
Spring was cold at first, then warm, with repeated spells of cold air and a lot of rain in the hills. Early summer was cool and unstable; from late July it turned hot, with local storms. Strong storms in early September caused local damage, with landslides and flooding in some vineyards. Harvest began on 10 September, four days ahead of the average, with good sugar, balanced acidity and heavier berries thanks to plenty of water.
Tisbe Veneto Cabernet Sauvignon IGT 2018
Tisbe is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown in the Le Guaite vineyard at 450 to 500 metres above sea level in Mezzane di Sopra, in the eastern Valpolicella zone near Verona. The vines are planted on a complex soil profile combining white calcareous rock, pink ferrous calcareous rock, and basaltic rock containing olivine, pyroxene, and volcanic material, trained to Guyot at a density of 5,000 vines per hectare. For the 2018 vintage, grapes were harvested in early September and underwent a three-month drying period before destemming, pressing, cryomaceration, and controlled-temperature fermentation with cultured yeasts and simultaneous malolactic conversion. The wine was then aged for approximately 36 months in new French oak barriques, followed by further bottle aging before release. The deep purple-red colour is a result of the concentration achieved through the drying process, while the calcareous and basaltic soils contribute a distinct mineral character alongside the fruit.
