A wine bar in Venice that ships
All’Amarone started as a wine bar in San Polo, a few minutes from the Rialto. The shop next door came later, because people kept asking to take home what they had just tasted. This website came last, for the ones who had already flown home.
That order still matters. Nothing goes online before it has been opened, poured and talked about at the bar, and the bottle you order is picked from the same shelves the bar pours from.
About the online shop
Over 1,000 Italian bottles sit next door to the bar: the deepest run of Amarone della Valpolicella we can put together, then Ripasso, Barolo, Brunello di Montalcino, the Super Tuscans and the rest of Italy. The oldest and rarest wait in temperature controlled fridges.
Around 400 of those wines are online. Order one and it comes off that shelf, not out of a warehouse somewhere else, packed here and insured until it reaches you. Visiting Venice? Travellers who live outside the European Union get 16% of the price back on wine carried home, with the form stamped at the border.

Who chooses the wine
Walk into All’Amarone in Venice and Johann is usually the one who greets you. He runs the business with his mother Nicole, and he is an AIS-certified sommelier: three years with Italy’s national sommelier association, diploma in 2022.
He started as a teenager in his parents’ restaurants, studied in Padua, spent time in Australia, then built a career in travel technology and online marketing in Venice, before wine took over.
Every bottle on this site comes off the same shelves he pours from in the bar, and the rare vintages, Quintarelli, Dal Forno, Bertani, Gaja, are the ones he picked himself. He answers in Italian, French and English, and is slowly working on his Japanese.
Three questions, six bottles
Tell us what the wine is for. We pick six from the shelves in San Polo and say why each one made the list.
