Description

Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico Riserva “Nicola Ferrari Black Label” 2016 by Monte Santoccio

The Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico Riserva “Nicola Ferrari Black Label” by Monte Santoccio is a distinguished red wine crafted from a rich blend of red grape varieties, including Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Molinara. This exceptional wine is born from the hands of Nicola Ferrari, who oversees approximately three hectares of vineyards in Fumane, Verona, nestled in the heart of the historic Valpolicella region.

Monte Santoccio winery adheres to the principles of organic philosophy, cherishing the unique qualities of the grapes from this area while staying true to time-honored traditions. In the vineyard, no pesticides, fertilizers, or chemical herbicides are used, and in the cellar, they encourage spontaneous fermentations and uncontrolled procedures. The vineyards are perched at altitudes ranging from 600 to 1000 meters above sea level, rooted in exceptionally rich soils primarily composed of clay and limestone.

Amarone della Valpolicella Black Label is a red wine made from a blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes sourced from a vineyard located in the Purano municipality, approximately 500 meters above sea level. It undergoes a cold pre-maceration of about 20 days and spontaneous alcoholic fermentation with native yeasts in steel tanks, preceding an extensive aging period of 5 years in large oak barrels. Afterward, the wine rests in the bottle for an additional 12 months before being released to the market.

This exclusive red wine, bearing the signature of Nicola Ferrari and produced in a limited quantity of only 1840 bottles, presents itself in the glass with a deep ruby red hue and intense garnet reflections. On the nose, it immediately reveals spicy and red fruit notes, leading to a juicy, enveloping, and complex palate. Amarone della Valpolicella Black Label is the perfect companion for hearty main courses featuring slow-cooked and roasted red meats. It pairs beautifully with roasts, braised dishes, and aged cheeses. Savor the essence of Italian winemaking excellence in every sip.

About Monte Santoccio

Nicola Ferrari is carrying forward a vision of winemaking where oversight of every step – from vine to cellar – ensures both quality and reputation. After spending years as cellarman under the legendary Bepi Quintarelli, Nicola established Monte Santoccio in Fumane, at the heart of Valpolicella Classica. Together with his wife Laura, he tends about three hectares of vineyards on the scenic Monte Santoccio hill, growing the region’s native varieties such as Corvina, Corvinone, Molinara, and Rondinella.

Each vintage relies exclusively on grapes from these estate vineyards, with annual production around 14,000 bottles. The wines, shaped by rigorous vineyard care and a focus on the land’s unique qualities, reflect an authentic expression of Valpolicella. Nicola’s meticulous approach stems from a deep knowledge of the local terroir – from soil studies and environmental conditions to carefully selecting vines and nurturing the most prized clusters. The result is a line of wines that celebrates both tradition and a clear, direct connection to this historic region.
