Stars from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Valpolicella, for Amarone della Valpolicella
A difficult year. Bad weather and hail; only careful selection saved the wine.
A demanding year, with difficult weather and severe hail in some areas. Careful grape selection was essential, and the Consorzio’s two star rating underlines the challenges faced by growers.
The Consorzio reports hail damage across roughly 300 hectares. Humid conditions also complicated the early appassimento period, when harvested grapes are dried for Amarone. Cold, dry weather in January improved conditions during the later stages of drying. Picking for grapes intended for drying began on September 13; grapes for direct vinification followed on September 18. The early lead in flowering and fruit set had diminished as the season progressed. Selection at harvest and control of the drying environment were therefore separate, consequential stages in producing Amarone that year.

Amarone della Valpolicella Doc “Corpus” by Villa Rinaldi
A bold expression of Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara, grown at 250-300 meters in the hills of Valpolicella. The grapes undergo traditional drying, concentrating their flavors before aging in oak barriques from the Massif Central in France. The length of aging varies based on the vintage, ensuring the best balance and depth.
Tasting Notes
On the nose, deep and layered aromas of black cherries and cherries in alcohol unfold, complemented by subtle balsamic tones. The extended drying process enhances its aromatic range, while time in the bottle refines its structure.
On the palate, the wine delivers intensity and richness, with a full-bodied presence that lingers. Smooth yet powerful, it retains the character of an Amarone made in a traditional style, offering depth and a lasting impression.
Pairing Suggestions
An excellent choice for aged cheeses and dark chocolate, it also serves as a satisfying conclusion to a meal. Best enjoyed at 18°C in a large crystal glass to appreciate its complexity.

Villa Rinaldi – A Unique Italian Maison de Négoce
Villa Rinaldi has been shaping its identity since the late 19th century, when Marcello Rinaldi laid the foundation for a winery deeply rooted in tradition. Over the decades, the family remained at the helm, refining its approach to both sparkling wines and great Valpolicella reds. A defining moment came in the 1960s when Rinaldo Rinaldi transformed the winery into an Italian Maison de Négoce, focusing on select Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Trentino Alto Adige and reviving historic winemaking methods.
A Vision of Excellence
Villa Rinaldi has long stood out for its dedication to Classic Method sparkling wines, refining techniques such as dégorgement à la volée and extended aging in French oak barriques. The winery introduced Barricaia Brut in 1986, setting a new benchmark for barrel-aged sparkling wines. It later pushed boundaries with Barricaia Noir, a red sparkling wine blending Corvina and Pinot Noir, an unconventional yet masterful creation.
The portfolio also includes Recioto della Valpolicella Metodo Classico, a rare interpretation of a historic style that reflects Verona’s deepest winemaking traditions. Over the years, Villa Rinaldi has gained recognition through international awards, including multiple gold medals at Vinitaly and prestigious titles such as Best Classic Method Sparkling Wine at Challenge Euposia.
A Style Like No Other
What defines Villa Rinaldi is a bold, independent approach to winemaking. The focus remains on carefully selected grape varieties, long aging, and methods that require precision and patience. Every bottle carries the imprint of this philosophy, where elegance, structure, and longevity come together.
